"We must protect the safety-net."
Edited on Wed Jul-27-11 02:06 AM by white_wolf
When protecting the safety-net is what we are fighting for, then we have already lost. Our battle should not be over how can we save the safety-net,but rather how can we expand it? How can we strengthen it? The safety-net as it is today is barely sufficient. It needs to be greatly improved upon. What I'm trying to say here is when we have to fight to defend the safety-net instead of expanding it we have lost the most important half of the battle. I decided to add a few basic suggestions for what needs to be done and keep in mind this is the least we can do. We really need a safety-net as least as strong as Norway's. However for starters we can provide: universal health-care,free university education, a living wage. Anything else you think we need to add asap?

2. It looks to me like it's no longer a safety net but a permanent platform.
After seeing those net assets per family I am coming to realize most people don't have much. How do we support such a large section of the population?

3. ask FDR he managed to do it
but first he was wise enough to put people to work with job programs, since Obama and his buds refuse to even consider a jobs bill, he and they are making it way , way harder. (perhaps so they can drown something in a bathtub?)

4. Was it so difficult to build back then though?
We are trying to put together a rail system and it is taking forever and people keep suing to move this or stop funding or protest the way things were awarded and on and on.

We got funding in 2005, which came after a whole lot of other planning work was done.

See this crazy history:
