Am I the only one scared to death of whats about to happen?
Edited on Tue Jul-26-11 07:39 PM by maryellen99
I am very scared but I'm going to enjoy life for the next few days-going to a Detroit Tigers game Sunday and Frankenmuth on Monday. After that though working and laying low.

2. Not that I dabble, but they're saying the markets aren't too
concerned, so they, at least, don't think TPTB will let us go into default. Hope they're right.

And, by the time it gets to the 11th hour, maybe it'll be bare bones enough that SS/MED/MED aren't even included.

OT -- My name is Mary Ellen, too! :hi:

It's always nice to meet someone with the same name-our name isn't that common. I hope they are right too.

4. No - it's not like republicans are going to let this happen.
They will hold out until the last minute and steamroll the POTUS with their cuts (not that he isn't willing to "compromise"). The country will be "saved" but your Social Security/Medicare are going to be cut.

I'd love to be wrong.

6. No, you are not.
The tea party Republicans are capable of anything, and they seem to have the rest of the Republicans running scared. My hope is that in the absence of an agreement on what to cut, both sides will agree to raise the debt limit and put off making the decisions on cuts. But I doubt it. I find this situation very nerve-wracking. Good luck with your coping strategies.:)

11. You have to wonder how much they actually believe this stuff
and how much they are just playing a part--a part that gives them a lot more power than if they were just normal Republicans, who lie about everything, screw working people, but are not insane. Having counterparts in negotiations think you are crazy (or a faction of your pary is crazy) provides a strategic advantage. Kissinger used this strategy in negotiations with North Vietnam, convincing them that Nixon was a loose cannon who might do anything if he did not get his way. The way that Obama negotiates with them suggets that he doesn't buy into their act completely (or why negotiate at all?). Maybe he is on to something.

13. No Maryellen you are not the only one. I am also afraid.
I am postponing making the reservation for my yearly one month trip to Manila, Philippines to see my 2 sons and their families (this will be the 4th year)...I'm just too afraid I won't be
able to come back home....feel like I need to stay here and "protect" my home....

It's a very strange feeling for me but I'm pushing 70 and have not had this fear before.

Hang in there...we are all in this together..whatever the outcome...

Hugs

17. Maybe you need to take a break from the news for awhile.
No offense....but this is meant to get you riled up and scared. It's the Rublican's "Fear" battlecry. Terrorism doesn't work anymore, now it's the economy.

Trust me, even if we default, you probably won't personally see any effects from it. Nor will most people. Just keep on doing what you normally do and try to calm down.

19. What does being scared or afraid get you? Does it make you feel better, improve your life?
Does it help to ward off or diminish that which you fear? How does being scared or afraid make things better?

Probably none of the above, so what's the point of being scared or afraid?

21. I'm thoroughly disgusted and angry.
But even if this current fiasco is resolved by the deadline, don't think we're not going to have more of this kind of nonsense. Frankly, I'm tired. If I'd known that the Bush shit was only the beginning, I would've just fucking jumped off a bridge years ago.
