...If she used the debt limit vote under Bush not merely as leverage to get some sort of concession, but for purely political purposes to embarass Bush, and willingly risked default in an effort to dare Bush to be the first President to default even if it brought the Nation to its knees?
In other words, lets say House Democrats signed a pledge saying they would not increase the debt limit until we get single payer, then actually followed through on the threat, which lead to a default, would House Democrats be heroes or villains in the ensuing calamity?
The Republicans are setting a dangerous precedent in the future that will sadly invite retribution, and there really is no reason to hold back if Democrats take the House and are facing a Republican President.
Of course, the problem with this game of chicken is that there will eventually be a crash. Perhaps now. Indeed, the fact that House Republicans are already poised to vote down the Reid plan, which essentially gives the Republicans what they say they want, shows just how crazy Republicans have become.
Yet, the corporate media still plays up a false equivalency between the parties even though one side is truly crazy. And, the American people elected them. As a political stunt, it does work, but the economic consequences are enourmous. Sadly, Republicans see this as a win-win. They will either get a Balanced Budget Amendment or default occurs and econmic catastrophe occurs under President Obama.
The American people simply do not realize just how radical the Republican party has become. Heck, Boehner is even having trouble securing votes for his very, right wing plan because so many of his caucas are locked into the Cut, Cap & Balance pledge, that they can't even agree with Boeher.
Again, this would be funny if it were not so pathetic. Can you imagine voting against increasing Medicare benefits, because you signed a pledge that said Single Payer or Bust! Some folks on this Board post how they hate compromise, but we are about to discover the downside of ideological purity. I would laugh at the Republicans, except that they are going to bring the entire Nation down with them.
The corporate media has tried to hide the extremism of the Repulican party. This is why the establishment (Fox News) has so heavily promoted Mitt Romney. Because he can be the face of Compassionate Conservatism II. A friendly face for facism. Well, we saw how things worked out under Bush. And, the Republicans are even more crazy than before.
