To all:
Yesterday, I made a grievous error of judgment and I want to try to rectify it in any way that I can.

I posted a message here venting inappropriately about some of the customers at my the place I work. In doing so I deeply hurt my employers, wonderful people who I admire and care for deeply. I apologize to them and I'm so sorry for the pain and trauma I've caused them. I also apologize to the unnamed family I insulted.

I want to make it absolutely clear that what I expressed in that post in NO way is reflective of my the views of my employers. They are terrific, accepting and welcoming people. The last thing they deserve is to be hurt by my having been an idiot. They were shocked and horrified by what I wrote, which was emailed to them by someone who posted thread. I completely understand their reaction.

As of today I have tendered my resignation. It's the least I could do to try and right the wrong I created.

Again, I am so sorry to have hurt folks who have been so very good to me.

Venting frustration on an anonymous board hardly seems worth the loss of an employee so clearly dedicated to her establishment.

4. Cali, a lot of hate filled people read here.
Edited on Mon Jul-25-11 10:44 AM by Lone_Star_Dem
There's a whole following of people who only read/post here to cause problems. For several of them it's a game to destroy other people's lives if they're given the chance.

Never post any type of personal information on the internet, especially a political discussion board, but really not anyplace on the internet. I mean the sewing/gardening/birdwatching boards you may post on as well. You never know what nut is reading your words, spewing spittle all over their monitor in manic glee the moment they think they've got something they can use to harm you.

I'm sorry you've had personal problems caused by some twit with no real life of their own.

You made an error in judgement, and you paid a high price for it.

You'll need time to recover. I hope it doesn't get you down too much.

My suggestion: take a holiday, if you can.

Otherwise, retreat into whatever and whomever gives you comfort and pleasure, at least for a bit.

7. sigh... a handful of years ago i had rw posters trying to decipher what business my hubby owned
to cause problems. using the personal info i have posted on du and another site, i had one that lives two hours away saying.... i could drive to amarillo, and figure this out.

nothing came of it. but was an eye opener. never enough for anyone to connect the dots.

sorry for you. i only read a bet of the thread, so i didn't know it had blown up to this.

they are the pathetic people, the need, want, desire to hurt others. truly pathetic human beings.

I saw nothing wrong in what you posted.

Many here vent about numerous things, and that is all I took it for.
A way to shake off frustrations in what, I would think, is a safe place. Apparently not.

I hope they refuse your resignation.

What did it do? Did it threaten her?

Regardless, I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw Cali posting her work info along with text that was ever so slightly critical of her customers - certainly critical enough for some crybaby "repuke" (I know redundant) to make a mountain out of a molehill. I even said as much in the thread. I even thought, to myself, maybe she is an owner/partner in the business and therefore "bullet proof".

Other then your venting about that one annoying family (which you did not even name) I thought the overall tone of it was fine. In fact, it made me want to check out that establishment if I'm ever lucky enough to visit Vermont. It looks (and sounds- based on what you said in your post) like a wonderful place.

I hope your employers will not accept your resignation. We all have aspects about our work that we dislike even if we enjoy what we do overall. That's pretty much what I got out of yesterday's post. You sound like a great employee who truly loves what she does for work. That alone is an endorsement of the business, imho.

So to whoever e-mailed that link to your employers, I hope they go ahead and e-mail this one too.

On edit: grammar

this is some type of bad joke. Otherwise I'd be inclined to think that a fellow DUer who had an agenda on that thread was out to create problems for you.

Work-places are curious things. I've mentioned my former employment at a mental health clinic. One morning, after a strange thing was reported to fellow employees, one told a horrible, sick joke. Of course, I laughed.

I felt guilty about laughing. That night, I called my Clan Mother, and talked to her about it. She said that life is that way. Sometimes stress comes out in odd ways. And that it is better to let it out than to hold it in.

I was more taken with the positives you wrote about the wonderful workplace and didn't really notice any rant, Cali. The pictures were gorgeous and I enjoyed the website.

I hope they won't accept the resignation.

Our online lives, when they spill over into "real" life, can be very precarious. I learned that last year with regards to Wishadoo and Glenn Beck's show. I'm pretty much "out there," but being "here" (on DU, one of several communities, tends to act as invitation for some to try to destroy me and Wishadoo.

Whatever happens, I hope you'll be at peace with it.

There are websites that do NOTHING but try to find out who we are and where we live and where we work just so they can do harm to us.

But, I am also angry. And for those that don't think these morans would HARM us if they were given the chance, they are delusional.

95. thanks.
I don't recognize the name.

I also don't understand why someone would go out of their way to do something like that. I may not like what someone has to say but as long as they are not breaking the law or harassing someone I would have left it alone. I have too much to do with my free time-there is no time for me to stalk random persons on the internet and try to find them IRL.

The type of person who does that needs a hobby or medication. They have too much time on their hands and no constructive way to release their energy.

...as you say, it is easy to see your employer's side, but it is also easy to understand your frustration and need to vent.

It's just too bad, all around. Please don't be too hard on yourself over it. We all make mistakes, the only thing we can do is to learn from them and not repeat them.

52. The employer is willing to be used as a tool of repression.
If I were your employer I'd be more offended at that, and refuse to be manipulated in that way by an anonymous outsider snitch with a political agenda against you. I would never reward a political attack troll by giving it the result it was seeking.

I didn't see the post and I don't know who your employer is, but if I did, I'd boycott them for having no regard for your rights and privacy. As long as the employer wasn't named, you did them no harm. The rest is your opinion and feelings, which you have every right to express, even if they're unfounded. On the other hand, ACTUAL harm is being done to YOU. You are the victim in this, not your employer.

I'd rather have an employer who wasn't so nice to me, and had greater regard for freedom of speech and privacy.

You employer should reject your resignation, and I hope they do.

By the time I finished reading her describe the food, the ambiance, the owners and other workers I wanted to take a trip up there this summer. I'm not that far away in Massachusetts and it would have been a nice overnight trip. I actually thought I'd surprise her! This whole thing is just so upsetting. I'd like to wring that nasty trouble maker's neck for doing this to Cali and also what he/she did to the owners! What a piece of crap that person is!!

turned out that way.

I did read the thread yesterday and the particulars did make me wince. I do agree with you about your premise: When serving the public there are some people who won't be satisfied no matter how well you do your job. From my POV, they aren't clueless; cretins like this actually ENJOY sending servers and other attendants around the bend. It's the nature of serving the public.

Having said all that, count me among those in this thread who wish we could visit, and leave a nice tip afterwards.

59. Sorry to hear about this, Cali.
I didn't catch the post, so I don't know the details, but it's obvious the child that forwarded the link has no sense of decency.

I post under the same name on every blog, online paper, etc. that I frequent. I live in a VERY red city in an obviously red state. Most of my friends here are Republicans and several have figured out who I am when I post in our local paper. They taunt me a bit in the comments, but would never consider "outing" me (my favorite, "Hey, Wait!!! How's it goin' comrade? See you this weekend!"). I deal with the city, county and the Republican party directly quite a bit. Granted, I never complain about them except to my husband, but some of the views and comments I've posted could cause problems for the company I work for. I wouldn't get fired, though.

I guess what I'm saying is, I don't try to hide as much as I probably should. But, we shouldn't have to hide at all.

Good luck to you, lass.

Ok, maybe that would be a bit crass, but I really hope they are reading it.

There was nothing you said yesterday that in any way disparaged them, just some nameless clientele. In fact, did you notice how many of us on this thread say that we would like to visit based on the pics and your description? If anything, you provided some good PR imho.

Best of luck to you and again, I hope they won't accept your resignation.

80. Here's the rule:
Restrictions on Linking to Other Websites

Do not post messages that give publicity to websites that have little purpose other than to smear, disrupt, or complain about Democratic Underground. Currently there are only three websites that fall into this category. Their addresses are not listed here because we do not wish to give them publicity. They are easily identified by their bizarre obsession with Democratic Underground.

65. Everybody makes mistakes. I hope yr employer doesn't accept yr resignation...
This is a fwiw, as I know you don't think much of me, and I didn't read the post that got you into trouble, but I've seen so many posts from you in the past where you talk about how much you enjoy yr job and say positive things about where you work. If I were yr employer, I'd be hurt and annoyed getting an email like that from someone who was malicious and clearly wanted you to lose yr job, but that'd be tempered by the thought that if I were to accept yr resignation I'd be losing someone who loves their job and who unfortunately chose the wrong way to vent about something that happened at work. If you were to do something similar in the future, that'd be a whole different story and you'd deserve what you get, but not for this...

I hope it all works out, and I'm sorry you've learnt such a hard lesson about being careful about what you post about yrself and yr real life on the internet...

For what it is worth, I bookmarked the site and put it in several places. One for gardening, possible orders and one for vacationing. I think several others did the same. While I can see why you hurt your employers I can also see that you have tendered your resignation as a sign of good faith and remorse. I hope they see reason to keep you on. They may have more potential business from out of town or state. Perhaps a nice note from you apologizing to the customers?

It is so easy to step over the line when comfortable posting to people on a site.

which is still true imo.

But I finally was able to read your OP courtesy of whoever posted it here and really, you should never have said that about insects and so on in your place of business. Besides, I've worked in restaurants and they ALWAYS make every effort to be flexible to the customers. I don't get why you posted what you did with so many details.

That was wrong to throw your employer under the bus while venting. Just my opinion.

Cali, you didn't name the family, so I don't know why she had to apologize to them. 99.999999999% of anyone who read that OP had no idea who you were talking about.

I didn't think you were slamming her employers at all. In fact, she said they welcomed everyone and had, for years, taken abuse from a rich DC family. Gee. A rich political family being disrespectful to waiters and waitresses. Whoever woulda thunk it? A little venting... wow. What a terrible thing. :eyes:

If I were your employer, I'd ask you to not link to my place of business again and to not discuss the customers. I'd also see someone as calling and emailing the thread as a troublemaker and not take what they sent me, this unknown person with an agenda. In fact, I'd respond that their attempt to damage another person has utterly failed.

My best to you.

86. I agree with your last paragraph completely.
But after reading the OP from yesterday...the insect infestation thing, the "we don't accept you after this time" assertion...I can see concern from an employer and business owner. In this economic environment, these kind of accusations can have real repercussions.

Had she only vented without linking to the establishment, no problem, but the link was a bad idea.

That all being said, it was a sleazy, scumball nasty thing for someone to do to send an email. Sound like a person with a lot of problems. Karma will find him or her.
