Kansas congressman Kevin Yoder’s town hall includes a bouncer

The conservative website Political Chips billed it as “Kevin Yoder’s Town Hall,” which implies an open event where just anybody could come on in and jaw with the congressman.

But the guy at the front entrance wasn’t interested in hearing that argument.

“This is a private party. Please allow me to close the door,” GOP precinct captain Mike Egan barked over and over again when those who hadn’t “pre-registered,” including yours truly, showed up Saturday to hear what Yoder, the freshman Republican representing Kansas’ 3rd District, had to say about the debt debate.

That left 30 of Yoder’s constituents melting in the broiling sun outside the clubhouse of the Mills Farm subdivision in south Overland Park. An elderly woman in a wheelchair was turned away. A man in the crowd passed out paper fans to keep cool.

Then the cops arrived. Two squad cars, then a third.

You’d have thought the place was surrounded by the union “thugs” that GOP Sen. Julia Lynn claimed in a tweet were disrupting the event.
