The Shock Doctrine (2009) - Naomi Klein
Edited on Sat Jul-23-11 10:16 AM by piratefish08
I watched this doc yesterday on Sundance. I had never read the book.

I have always been more cynical than others and always believed that we live in a world where greedy people exploit situations for profit. I never considered how many of these situations were not only exploited but CREATED by governments in order to take over countries, lives and economies.

My hands were fucking shaking from the fist clenching that took place in order to finish watching this movie.....

1. "The Shock Doctrine-The Rise of Disaster Capitalism"
and "A People's History of the United States" are the two most important books written in the last 50 years. EVERYBODY SHOULD READ THOSE TWO BOOKS IF THEY READ NOTHING ELSE.

6. Yes sir/ma'am, it is..........
Depending on when you went to school (and where also I suppose), you'll find an AMAZING amount of information about the TRUE history of the PEOPLE of this country that you weren't taught in that school. A lot of it I knew already because of my personal research, but even the stuff I knew, I learned in more depth. Brilliant book by a brilliant author.

we were shitting red, white and blue turds until the 80's rolled around.

8. Agreed. I read "The Shock Doctrine"
a year or so ago. To me, it seemed to explain everything. It should be required reading. I just purchased Zinn's "A People's History of the United States." My compliments on your tastes in literature.

5. I noticed that they were running that.
Also that used copies of it on Amazon start at about $4.00, which is more expensive than in the past. I think demand is up, which is a hopeful sign that people are beginning to wake up.

7. Another good book:
Confessions of an Economic Hit Man by John Perkins. Bush lied about why "they" hate us.

22. I wonder what Obama would think of this book or the documentary
If he were to be exposed to it. Has he been manipulated & sucked into being a part of it by his Wall Street contributors (who became so influential on him because he refused gov't campaign $) OR is he willingly part of this latest installment of Shock Doctrine?

That is one of many questions for me.

18. I finally figured out why I am so bothered by Shock Doctrine
it occurred to me this afternoon that this narrative in the Shock Doctrine, could not possibly have ended with Bush/Cheney (as the movie did).........

The 60+ year old game is still in play - has to be.

To what extent is our current administration involved or aware?

The bizarre cabinet appointments make sense, as does the aversion to charge anybody in the financial sector with crimes after the largest unarmed robbery in our history..............

21. We are up to our necks in disaster captialism and
the shock doctrine. It definitly didn't end with Bush Co. It will continue until all the first world countries are on an economic par with all the third world countries. It's the only way the Global Elite can maintain control.
