what really went on in the secret meetings between Obama and Boehner
Boehner: Mr. President, if I agree to a deal that raises taxes, I'll lose my Speaker's gavel to Eric Cantor.

Obama: don't worry John, I have a plan that helps both of us. Friday, you will "storm out" of the negotiations and I will follow with a presser where I strongly denounce you.

Boehner: but what will that accomplish?

Obama: just hear me out. You and I both know this is a manufactured crisis, and all we really have to do is get the debt ceiling raised. So we will finally settle on something that looks like the McConnel plan, but you look strong to your base for standing up to me, I look good to independents because I was "willing to compromise", and default is averted. And SS and Medicare don't get touched. A win-win-win, if you will.

Boehner: I like it. Tee time next sunday?

Obama: it's a date.

4. Bingo!
It's almost beyond obvious that we're all being played at this point, isn't it? I'm amazed that self-titled "political thinkers" and folks who consider themselves smarter than our counterparts on the other side of the political spectrum fell so easily for it.
