Rupert Murdoch hiring big legal guns, may fear hacking scandal is spreading to U.S.
Source: NY Daily News

News Corp. began hiring big-time U.S. legal firepower - a possible sign the firm fears its scandal will spread to America.

The company's nine independent directors hired former Manhattan U.S. Attorney Mary Jo White and former Attorney General Michael Mukasey, who served under President George W. Bush.

The directors are said to be increasingly concerned about Rupert Murdoch's stewardship of the firm and appear to be bracing for new U.S. legal trouble.

By denying knowledge of the phone hacking, bribery and hush money rampant at News of the World, experts said Rupert Murdoch and his son James may have left themselves open to shareholder charges of incompetence.

I guess we'll be able to rely on Fox News and the NY Post for "inside story" coverage as this develops...

10. It's even worse than that. Far worse.

The implication here is that the GWOT and warrantless wiretaps have been an excuse for political black ops and economic takedowns on a national scale. Now, it's America's turn.

That's almost too plausible. No wonder Holder's DOJ has done seemingly nothing to bring Murdoch's organization to account. That would open up a much larger can of worms that involves factions of the US intelligence community and several competing foreign powers - including our major "allies" in highly illegal domestic operations.

The basic approach seems to be this: if it can be done, do it. There's no accountability for crimes above a certain level - it's just global business as usual operating behind the secrecy afforded by national security. Nothing new about this game, except it's losing the veneer of legitimacy as it ceases to widely share-out benefits here.

4. Since when is reading GOP press releases on air
And repeating whatever Grover Norquist tells them to repeat breaking the law? I'm not sure if they have anything to fear in the US (unless any of them are in fear for their souls).

WILL spread? The scandal is everywhere. Or does anyone in their right mind think it's JUST in England?

How about a fear the investigation will spread to America!

Uh... DUH! is so right!

9. EuroNews: Murdoch’s News Corp. faces worries in US
http://www.euronews.net/2011/07/21/murdoch-s-news-corp-faces-worries-in-us/

Rupert Murdoch has returned to the US where his company faces a host of financial and legal challenges.

As the phone-hacking scandal continues in the UK, News Corp must confront two American based shareholder lawsuits, a possible credit down grade and a federal investigation.

The FBI is looking into whether News Corp. employees bribed policeman to obtain information about 9/11 victims.

There’s also fears that advertisers will stop buying TV slots on Murdoch owned stations and people will boycott 20th Century Fox films. And in his native Australia, there’s been a call for a parliamentary inquiry into media laws in the wake of events in Britain.
