The new Hippie
Screw the RW and their wars, and I am sure folks in the 60's and 70's felt the same with Vietnam.

I have a son overseas right now, missing his three kids:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bF9jLHbOpMY&feature=related

You have no problem with bombing others, You think people who cannot find work here (even vets) are just lazy and want to live on the government dole.

I am the new hippie - I may not have a blanket spread out on the lawn in our nation's capital, but I am damned sure listening and in tune with what is going on. Before where we gathered thousands in out nation's capital - we now gather millions across the globe online.

I may not face you in the streets, but I will on FB and elsewhere. I may not publish a small paper that I hand out on a campus, but I will publish online with many others.

I won't rely on just a few news sources for my information. I will scour the internet for more information - I won't be boxed in by a few big news organizations to tell me what to think. I will think for myself.

The government in the end will fear me and those like me - because we will not be lied to, we will keep looking for the truth.

We will expose you and your lies. You send our kids overseas to wars that have nothing to do with our security.

You think because we are not in the streets we are not organized and ready to fight. You are wrong. We are stronger now than ever because we can communicate now faster than ever before.

In the blink of an eye I can talk to over a million people, in but a moment people like me can publish the truth and fight you. We can research, communicate, and yes even hack into your most personal emails and expose you.

We have only just begun, us new hippies. You fear us, and we know it. You want to control us, but you will not. Our phones with cameras, our words, our research, is spread in an instant across the world - and it scares you.

Your time is coming to an end, we will expose you, we will awaken and educate the 'ents' (a LOTR reference). Slowly, we will overcome.

We are the new hippies, born and bred for the 21st century. And while you scramble to keep up with us, we will eventually leave you in the dust.

I am 45, and I am more able now than when I was a young person to fight because I have at my fingertips a whole world of people and facts.

Call us what you will, key board commandos, etc - but we are changing the face of the world - along with many others all over the globe.

We won't be silenced, we won't be intimidated. And we are growing in number. From the repressed in China to the repressed here in the US.

Wish we had some sense of how congressional offices filter the incoming email, etc.

4. I admire your conviction
But they really do not fear anyone at all. "Fear" of voter and/or citizen backlash would've resulted in the Bush tax cuts being rolled back--instead it's yet another round of tax cuts (notice they employ the term "tax" when it's for cuts---we're forced to use "revenue" when it's justified hikes)

If this compromise in any way leads you to believe they're fearful, then I just have to respectfully--yet vehemently disagree.

They STOLE 2.3 Trillion from the SS fund to pay for war and tax cuts etc, and are devising method after method--employing benefit cuts under the guise of raising the retirement age to "save it" until no one will collect anything remotely close to what was paid.

Bernie Madoff is rotting in jail for manipulating the system this way.

6. The only reason Bernie Madoff is in jail
is because he was playing with rich people's money.

The SS trust fund pirates
stole our funds legally. The only difference was Bernie wasn't known as "Congressman Madoff"

That's 2.3 Trillion dollars--a gargantuan upward wealth transfer (expropriation)

As I stated earlier, "they're not finished with us yet!"

Another huge tax break to the wealthy is now on the horizon. Closing loopholes is a joke--a rotten sick joke that will inevitably be paid for down the line with further cuts to our programs.

It's nothing but a vicious cycle that will result in the total dismantling and eventual death of the few existing components of New Deal and Great Society legislation.

17. We are living in a fascist country right now, I'm afraid.
The corporate party, with the help of the tea party crazy faction of the Republican party, has staged a coup, just as surely as Adolf Hitler and his National Socialists did in Germany in the early days of the Nazi rise. Weren't they in the minority, too, at the beginning?

I'm not calling anyone a Nazi, but the parallels are hard to deny.

"The streets" means anywhere people come together. Today, that is lots of places.

9. It's just not the same....
In the 60's and 70's when we were in the streets and not on the internet the media showed peaceful demonstrations being disrupted by police.
How do we create another Kent State online so voters see the outrage ?
The laziness of the Internet allows the government to get away with everything now.
The only changes happening now are in countries where they're demonstrating in the streets. We need to bring that back if we're to accomplish anything.
Just My Humble Opinion

posted here by people telling how they talked to actual persons in their lives about the issues. THAT's a HUGE STEP.

I did a total of 5 buses and two sets of vans to D.C. to protest the Invasion & Occupation of Iraq, all of which efforts were supported by the internet.

There's a national rally for public education next weekend. Labor is getting stronger. Things ARE happening; we can build on that.

15. I second that. It replaces the bulletin board in the food co-op, but
it will never replace the face-to-face with politicians.

Besides, it's really hard to get a tv camera on your group for throwing a firecracker in your living room.
