New Zealand bans weird baby names
Sorry, new parents in New Zealand, but weird baby names such as Lucifer, Duke, Messiah and 89 are not allowed.

Celebrities with a penchant for weird baby names (looking at you, David and Victoria Beckham) should avoid having kids in New Zealand.

The country’s Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages has been cracking down on parents who get too creative when naming their kids, Australia’s Herald Sun reports.

The list of weird names for kids that are banned by New Zealand’s names registrar has grown to include Lucifer, Duke, Messiah and 89.

Also not approved: Bishop, Baron, General, Judge, King, Knight and Mr., names that were all said to be too similar to titles.

The letters, C, D, I and T were also rejected as first names, the Herald Sun says.

8. Not only that, it was probably used first to mean the 'morning star', ie Venus in the morning

when it rises before the Sun. It's certainly used first in English to mean that; and the Oxford English Dictionary points out it's similar in form to the Greek word (Phosphoros) for the morning star too; whereas the biblical reference only comes in with the Vulgate translation.

You should be able to name your kid anything you want. Call him Drywall or Oaktree if you want. Who the hell cares, and why is it the state's business?

3. France did that at one time. I remember hearing that they

disallowed the name "Cerise" for a girl.That translates to "Cherry." No girls named for fruit, I suppose, and I suppose Rutabaga would be right out, too.

5. 'Knight' is a strange one to ban; no-one is ever addressed as 'Knight'. It's 'Sir'

And I'm amazed Sweden banned 'Elvis'. That was Presley's real name, after all. And it's not simply a nationalistic thing if they allowed 'Lego' and 'Google'.

9. Because it issues birth certificates

They can't stop the parents calling them "King" at home, but an official name does have to go through an office.

There are sometimes good reasons for it:

One little girl was so traumatised by her name, Talula Does the Hula From Hawaii, that she had it legally changed at age nine.

7. My grandfather's first name was Admiral

and one of his sons' name was Ogle O'Don. My uncle didn't like that name & changed it to just Don. His parents named him after their dog! LOL

It was his mother's maiden name. I also went to high school with an Elvis.
