I am looking for a job and I just signed up a month ago. I have to say I think its a pretty good networking tool even though I haven't gotten a job yet... I can see how it really connects you to a huge number of people in a really short time.
5. The reason I signed up is because a recruiter told me
that those job boards are quite expensive for recruiters to use- so only some of the high end agencies use them.
In a bad economy companies will get all the applicants they need without much spending money. But its cheaper for recruiters to find people through linkedin and cheaper for jobseekers to get more exposure through it than through job boards alone, apparently.
I put up a profile even though I'm not seriously looking - just thought I'd start working on it because my youngest goes to kindergarten next year. Within a few days of posting it a couple of people contacted me with good temp jobs in the area. Didn't take them because I wasn't interested in that sort of thing, but it was amazing how quickly folks called.
