Grover Norquist reminds me of this doll I used to have . . .
Edited on Mon Jul-18-11 06:59 PM by Brigid
When I was a little girl, I had a doll (they were common at the time) with a string in the middle of her back. You pulled the string and she would "talk.". Grover Norquist reminds me of that doll. "We have to cut spending" . . . "We have to cut spending . . .". At least that doll spoke several different phrases. :eyes:

11. Just like in Great Britain, there's a web connecting who holds the power.
The story of Norquist's connections to terrorists was never answered. He was also the guy who introduced Republican groups to the now forgotten Jeff Gannon.

The David Safavian, Grover Norquist, Chris Cannon connection

Last Monday, David Hossein Safavian, a high-ranking White House official and pal of GOP powerbroker Grover Norquist, was arrested in a federal corruption case involving lobbying bad boy Jack Abramoff. According to the FBI, Safavian repeatedly lied to federal investigators in order to cover up Abramoff's shady dealings. He not only bent ethics rules to accompany Abramoff on a 2002 golf junket to Scotland; he also used his position as chief of staff at the General Services Administration to deliver GSA-managed land into the lobbyist's hands.

But Safavian's not just tied to a dirty lobbyist. He's also tied to a convicted terrorist and a suspected terrorist supporter. Lobbying disclosure forms revealed last year that he has been in the employ of Abdurahman Alamoudi, an avowed supporter of Hamas and Hezbollah. Prosecutors have discovered evidence that he has links to al-Qaeda. At the time, Safavian waved aside any affiliation to Alamoudi. He insisted that he was really lobbying for a client named Jamal al Barzinji. That revelation did little to clear Safavian's name: A federal affidavit identifies Barzinji as the ringleader of a group suspected of aiding terrorists.

What's worse, Safavian has demonstrated a pattern of concealing all these ties in order to gain access to sensitive positions in the government; and despite this pattern of dishonesty and despite serious security concerns, both the Senate and the agencies that have hired him have given him a pass...

..."I think he will do a great job for the American people in this job," testified Rep. Chris Cannon, R-Utah, who had previously employed Safavian as a top aide. "I would like to second what Chris Cannon has said," added Rep. John Conyers, D-Michigan, who brought along his chief of staff and two lawyers to add to his cheering section...

As you may know, Norquist's office is host every Wednesday to a meeting that is attended by representives from practically every conservative organization on the planet. The White House, Senator Frist's office, and Speaker Hastert's office also send representatives, and they tell us about the legislative agenda or other policy topics. Conservative candidates from around the country come there to introduce themselves. Virtually any group that has something going on can get a minute or two on the agenda, and I have done so numerous times to promote things the FRN was doing, such as the "Rally for America" events we did back in March. This is also how I was able to arrange for Angelwood to attend a speech given by President Bush. It is how we met Jeff Gannon of Talon News, who now hosts a program on Radio FR. In short, Grover Norquist has been of enormous help to us in connecting us with other people and organizations that share our goals.

7. Norquist likely makes some dough from his website and Townhall Magazine
Out of all of the rightwing columnists that I have read on his website, I think that I despise Doug Giles the most, he is just overflowing with pure hatred and loathing of liberals.

6. "The American People"...
Somehow Grover not only has convinced himself but able to scare rushpublicans as being some unique holder of what the "American people" want. Tweety tried to knock him off that talking point but its just as resolute as "cut taxes" and obviously as effective. It's all part of the rushpublican big lie...say it loud enough and often enough, people will believe it. In the parallel universe of faux noise, rushbo and right wing talking points Grover is considered beyond question...and he plays it to the hilt. They actually believe that he speaks for the "American people"...or at least the Americans who write big paychecks to their campaigns...
