I know our IT department is half the size it was 10 years ago.. ow we still have the people working but they are insourced and outsourced from India. Nothing like having someone work on a system they don't care about and won't have to worry about once they have done their two years and moved back home or to a new company. You lose the loyalty and the caring that person would have if they were going to be working with it and supporting it for the next 10+ years of their life.
I've also noticed that the quality is going way down, back in 2000 the folks coming over were smart, very smart, comparable. Now.. well they must be training about anyone they can get over there because the abilities and work ethic have declined rapidly in the past 10 years.
These are/were good paying jobs 50k/60k/70k. You want to help your unemployment problem in this country, ban this shit and put Americans to work. Don't tell me they can't learn, 30 years ago when IT was just really getting going they didn't have enough analysts either. What did they do? They trained people at night, secretaries, clerks, dock loaders whatever, anyone who showed aptitude, I work with a lady who started out as clerk 38 years ago and now makes over 100k+ as an IT analyst, no college, just learning at night and on the job. It can be done but we need leadership in Washington willing to do something about it.
