Rating firedoglake.com and democraticunderground.com
Edited on Thu Jul-14-11 04:00 PM by MineralMan
Alexa rankings for the two site, measuring US ranking only (lower numbers represent more popularity)

Democratic Underground - 1,262
Fire Dog Lake - 3,901

Democratic Underground ranks 3 times higher than FDL.

And there, you can see the comparative weight of the two sites.

For comparison purposes, The New York Times site, nyt.com, ranks 27.

Reality checks are very important when thinking about influencing a nation's population.

1. I'm leaving my computer, so I won't be able to add more to
this thread. I can't see how that matters, though. The facts speak for themselves.

7. Will you try reconciling with it later?
Given all the time you invested in that relationship, I think simply leaving your computer might be a little harsh.

3. No obsession. I was curious, since FDL and Jane Hamsher
seem to be a hot topic today. So, I went and did some research. Facts are facts.

Hamsher is basically calling people who support the president "the dumbest motherfuckers in the world". Well, I think MM is pointing out that DU is a lot more popular than her pathetic site. Who are the dumbbells?

From what I heard, they are trying to get a few rats to help them run the wheel, but I think someone let the cat out of the bag a long time ago about that.

5. Yup... more than a three fold difference
Probably what is chafing folks is that Jane appears on "the TV machine," as Rachel Maddow would term it. In some minds, that gives her influence.

It is a fine line to walk in being supportive of ones President, while expressing due concern if their actions/policies appear to be "wandering." I refuse to ride the roller coaster of emotions, though and can only assume that that intelligence and innate compassion that I voted for in Obama--will win the day.

13. Well I guess I should pick Freerepublic.com over democraticunderground.com then
Edited on Thu Jul-14-11 04:27 PM by Theo Haffey
Because higher alexa rank= better content, in your view.

A search shows that FR has a ranking in the US of 969 compared to the 1,262 for DU that you cited. http://www.alexa.com/search?q=freerepublic.com&r=site_screener&p=bigtop

For some reason, I won't follow your logic. I'll read DU instead.

19. 1261 sites rank higher than DU. So what?
This was a comparison between DU and FDL. Who cares what Free Republic does? They have nothing whatever to do with Democratic political reality.

But, if it makes you feel better, Free Republic is also quite non-influential. No discussion forum really has any influence.

26. Yeah... But You're Biased...
David Dayen and his reporting is outstanding...

And FDL's being on top of the Mortgage Fraud mess is invaluable: http://firedoglake.com/search/?cx=012863467380897931540%3Abacmcr9sohw&cof=FORID%3A11&ie=UTF-8&q=mortgage+fraud&sa=Search&siteurl=firedoglake.com%2F

And Marci Wheeler's (EmptyWheel) contributions to DOJ, CIA, NSA, etc. Information is also top notch.

She was scooping the "Big Boys" during the Scooter Libby trial by blogging from inside the courtroom in real-time, while the rest of the MSM had to take notes, wait until the end, and then call their editors and file their story.

A whole lot of them ended up curious as how she was doing what she was doing, and the media changed once again because of what she did.

I see it only as reflected in the anti-Obama posts which appear here so frequently, usually without comment from the posters. I will defer to your deep knowledge of that site. You clearly know it well.

31. I'm not sure what point you intended to make.
Based on your OP, FDL is about 3X more influential than DU, if influence is reflected by popularity.

Maybe I should spend more time at FDL; I certainly get tired enough of the endless cheerleading/bashing going on here. Lefties are insignificant, but it's their fault if anything bad happens to the Dem party. That's some brilliant logic.

35. No.
The FDL number is ~ 1/3 the DU number, thus 3X more popular/influential.

Since Thursday looked like Bash FDL day around here, I was curious as to the point the OP was trying to make.

36. You're Still Wrong
Go reread the OP. THe DU number is 1261. The FDL number is 3901. I don't know how you get FDL is 1/3rd. The number is nearly 3.1 times HIGHER. You've got your mind made up, and refuse to let facts get in the way.
