I assume it's because all the liquor stores are owned by the State, same as Pa.
My guess is the bars will be busy! I know if I owned a bar and couldn't buy beer, I'd drive to another State to buy it so my bar could stay open.

6. It's because the sellers need a $20 state license giving them the right to buy liquor to sell.
They can buy the liquor anywhere. Just need the license to buy it.

9. No, most are privately owned. Some are municipal, none are state-owned.
Edited on Wed Jul-13-11 08:51 PM by The Velveteen Ocelot
The problem is that the sellers need to have licenses to sell beer for resale, and the stores need licenses to buy it, and if those licenses expire while the state is shut down, the liquor stores and bars can't buy any.

10. Your assumption is incorrect. There are municipal liquor stores here and there, but no state-owned.

Here are the actual facts:

MillerCoors becomes casualty of Minnesota shutdown

MINNEAPOLIS - Miller, Coors and other popular beers may disappear from Minnesota stores and bars within days because brewing giant MillerCoors lacks the proper licenses due to the state's government shutdown.

MillerCoors has 39 "brand label registrations" with the state that expired last month, and the employees who process renewals were laid off when state government shut down July 1 in a budget dispute, Doug Neville, a spokesman for the Department of Public Safety, said Wednesday.

State alcohol enforcement officials who remain on the job recently told officials with Chicago-based MillerCoors LLC that they need to come up with a plan soon for pulling their products he said.

<snip>

Minnesota requires that brewers, wineries and distillers take out brand label registrations for products they sell in the state. They cost only $30 and are good for three years. MillerCoors' registrations expired June 13.

8. It's been well covered in the print media today

Miller-Coors lost their chance to renew their distribution license as of June 30th and 300 bars have had their permit to purchase alcohol expire. If this extends beyond the 1st of August, many more establishments will lose their legal ability to purchase alcohol and re-stock their shelves.

16. Apparently not nly Coors. From Big Ed said, there are ore co's to
be added during along with license renewal of many of the bars and many more to come beginning Aug 1st. Plus he said the stores are running out of license stamos they put on the ciggaretts.

Ed also said, in the Land of a Thousand Lakes, many fishermen haven't getten their licenes yet and now of course the dept is closed.

I sure hope the great citizens of MN. are contacting their representatives and SCREAMING!
