Obama considering Republican for U.S. Attorney for Utah
SALT LAKE CITY — The White House is finally considering someone for Utah's next U.S Attorney, but some Utah Democrats aren't happy with the choice.

The Obama Administration is checking the background of David Barlow, legal counsel to freshman GOP Sen. Mike Lee.

"I recommended him. Sen. Lee recommended him, too," said Sen. Orrin Hatch, Utah's senior senator who plays a key role in judicial and U.S. attorney nominations to Utah. "I recommended him about two or three months ago, so it takes quite a while down at the White House. They do a lot of vetting."...

This isn’t the first time the White House has ignored its party’s suggestions for U.S. attorney nominees. Obama snubbed Texas Democrats last month by nominating Republican picks for all four U.S. Attorney’s Offices in Texas, according to the website Main Justice.

1. Obama nominated four Republican US Attorneys for Texas?
And now another Republican for Utah? I thought we voted Republicans OUT! Especially US Attorneys after the scandal under Bush.

Wow, who needs to vote for Republicans when a Dem. President will do it for you.

I wonder who McCain would have nominated in Texas and Utah?

Wait, Jane Hamsher once signed a petition also signed by Grover Norquist. What am I thinking. I nearly wasted some outrage on those five Republican US Attorney nominations when I could have been outraged at a blogger.

26. In TX, he ignored the 2 that were recommended by the dems.
He went all repug. Texas is a state that desperately needs liberal judges.

3. It's called triangulation...
Watch how smoothly he positions himself as the steady hand guiding the ship through the storm while the "dummies" on the right and the left are engaged in a food fight.

21. What the heck, they have been ignoring those iceberg warnings long before
he assumed the helm.

It's only money--just a way to keep score.

8. Smooth sailing into retirement.
Republicans are never going to vote for him.
It doesn't take that many liberals staying home for him to lose.
He cannot win with moderates alone.

Now, based on those three fact-items, who should he be placating by screwing over and aggressively-smacking whom?

The current strategy of placating GOPs by beating on the liberals who voted for him last time is a sure loser.

22. It's not the Rs or the libs he's after...he already has the libs and like you say,
the Rs ain't gonna vote for him anyway.

He is making a play for the Is. For that is the way to the promised land.

30. No.
He can't with with 70%-80% of the Libs and ~50% of the I's and that's all he'd get right now. He's fucking himself and you're delusional if you think this is a winning strategy he's on. Obama's got as much of a chance of entering the promised land as Moses unless he seriously changes his game.

The I's want to see him move left and they want to see some fire out of the man. When they ask Independents who disapprove of his job why, the most common answer is..."He doesn't fight for us." Think about that. Does that sound like they're going to vote for the man...they think he's selling them out by not being immoderate. They want an immoderate Obama.

This comes as no surprise, centrism doesn't win anything ever...never has.

25. Presidents endeavor to keep campaign promises during their first two years.
The next two are all about the reelection.

I am accustomed to being betrayed by politicians; in fact, anything else would be an aberration.

in his triangulation tool box.

7. Funny how all those voters elected Obama when he first campaigned as a real
Democrat. But now Obama keeps moving to the right, going after those imaginary centrists. Whatever happened to all those real democrats and liberals who voted him in in a landslide the first time? Obama sure campaigned (back then) as a liberal and got himself elected. I guess all those liberal voters and real Democrats are all gone because Obama is making sure they wont vote him in a landslide again.

Here's hoping the Dancing Supremes wont be called in to referee this presidential election because we know who they take their bribes from.

Traditionally appointments like this are made based on the recommendations of the Senators of the state.
