Would Social Security Cuts Bring People Out in the Streets?
All the callers on CSPAN are pissed about Social Security.

I think cutting Social Security could cause riots...what say the rest of you?

1. I think people will continue to watch TV and try out for reality TV.
And eat stuff.

31. Don't forget Drink Beer
Want people out in the Streets then take away their beer..Other than that, Americans are just too damn comfortable...Hell most don't even vote so why should they care what Washington does? Americans feel helpless about politics.. They know politicians are going to do whatever they want no matter what the people want. Politicians are in it for themselves. There are no longer any "Mr. Smiths"...The people that do not vote (the majority) will get zero representation and they expect no less, so they will not get out in the streets...

2. OK, sounds good.
Maybe this is what is needed to regain control of our country again.

Never mind the death and destruction this will entail.

3. No.
People are too busy either looking for work, working overtime to keep their current job, or working second and third jobs. They don't have time to take to the streets. They are trying to pay bills and feed the family.

Four Teabaggers and a port-o-pot get more coverage but it has happened.

It is for future generations.

24. And too sick and disabled, and some are too YOUNG.
The most vulnerable, the disabled, depedent children and the elderly, this is who they want to make pay for the gambling debts of the corrupt wealthy now.

This is simply a repeat of what is going on in Europe. We have Global Masters now. Kill social programs and privatize all public funds so that the Global Gamblers can keep going to the Casino, until finally, there is nothing left at all.

We'll see if it will get people out in the streets here. It has done so in Greece, Spain, France and Ireland, but their respective governments only listen to their Global Masters now.

10. That is ridiculous since these cuts aren't coming for 20 years.
Chained CPI is moot since Medicare premiums will eat up all the cost of living adjustments anyway.

You just want an excuse to riot. Admit it.

22. You know what is coming sooner than the effects of any social security changes?
Global warming, with it's effect on food production and destruction of property. That is way more serious but we don't give a crap.

Chained CPI will cut benefits immediately. Not 20 years down the road.

35. bingo. we have a winner here!
although i think the *taking it to the streets* thing COULD happen -- if not over the corporate rape of America, then for the coming H2O wars.

However, everyone is too busy hanging on to their jobs right now to make it happen, and they know it.

i think the problem about getting together is geographic. tell you what: we should make my lovely, blood-red state of Kansas the meeting point! Halfway for everybody ... stop by on my back deck, pull up a chair. BBQ and beer for all! oh, wait ...

seriously, i'm up for some serious demonstrations if DC wasn't so damned far away and financially impossible to get to ... that's probably what they're *banking* on (sorry) ...

13. They could solve the MISTRUST building against both parties.
Separate out SS and reform it as a stand alone bill.

The suspician is stil growing. It is believed Ryan
Plan was using SS Trust Fund to pay off deficit.
The suspician still grows.

This was one place the President was lame. They
thought this crisis might give the chance to strengthen
and reform. Let this crisis go to waste, Mr. Presient.

Put SS as a stand alone Reform Bill.

14. The Nam Generation Could
since they had plenty of practice in the 60's however health issues may slow them down. How many younger people are willing to fight for a cause that may/will be a lost cause for them but would only help their parents and other aging relatives?

18. One would hope so.
Of course one would also hope that the stolen elections in 2000 & 2004 would have done this. Or the fascist "Patriot Act". Or the illegal wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Or the Citizens United betrayal by the Supreme Court.

What WILL it take to wake people the fuck up?

32. No. Most people are still too comfortable or just living lives of quiet desperation.
There will be no great marches on Washington, no riots. There will be lots of noise, however.
