3. He must think that he will so easily win a re-election that he can say
fuck it to Democratic ideals. He no longer thinks he needs his party support to win. Or he doesn't want to win. What a lost opportunity to change direction in this country.

13. Why not - they don't have a good candidate...
I wish he would so we could run someone who actually believes in Democratic principles enough to use every tool available in the fight.

14. Yeah, why do people even listen to the President's words at a press conference? They're just words!
Everyone's supposed to ignore them--that's why he called the press conference!

18. That is an extrapolation and characterization from your brain.
No one in this thread has said any such thing. So, hyperbole as a distraction device, very Karl Rove sort of tactic. That is to say an old, tired, balding sort of tactic.

19. WTF? We already have a revenue problem. This will only make things WORSE?
You don't even need to have passed Econ 101 to understand that.

It's basic fucking math at this point.

:wtf:

21. OMG Indeed
I am mostly a lurker, but felt the need to speak up and say... what I'm hearing right now from the President? Making me physically ill. He has adopted every one of the republican talking points to heart. Not only doesn't he think he needs to fight for us and for these programs, he thinks his job is to fight those of us begging him not to do this- that somehow screwing the 75-80% who say don't do this is the brave thing to do. The talking point that this is a moment that we can use to attack these issues? Total Shock Doctrine. We are so screwed. Flame me all ya want. This will kill the Democratic party if Obama enables the republican to get their greedy, grubby noses under the proverbia new deal tent. So friggen tired of being attacked by Republicans and ignored by Dems. I'm a lifelong Democratic, and believe me I want to see this President succeed. But I am also heartsick at what's happening to our country and both parties seem totally detached from the needs and struggles of the American people. Corporate intetests have corrupted the system completely. Gonna go throw up now.
