McConnell denies GOP trying to sink economy to hurt the president
http://thehill.com/blogs/on-the-money/budget/170561-mcconnell-denies-gop-is-trying-to-sink-economy-to-hurt-obama

By Erik Wasson - 07/10/11 09:31 AM ET

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) speaking on Fox News Sunday denied his party is trying to sink the economy through big spending cuts in order to ensure President Obama is a one-term president.

“That is my most single important political goal along with every active Republican in the country,” McConnell said. “That is in 2012...our biggest goal for this year is to get this country straightened out.”

“Our goal is to have a robust vibrant economy,” he said.

1. If yer 'splainin', yer losin'
The fact that 'pugs torpedoing the economy is being discussed at all lends credence to the theory that it's been the topic of backroom meetings.

4. Mitch is disappointed in such a simple and transparent reason the Republican actions.
Mitch McConnell want recognition for his 'brilliant' efforts in not just tanking the economy, but insuring a Capitalist Utopia in the United States where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Spending cuts are but a small portion of the Republican efforts. There is the cash flow to defense contractors (paid for by cuts in Social Security), bailouts for the Banksters on Wall Street (paid for by cuts to Medicare), crushing the EPA for the benefit of fossil fuel based industries, and the allowing of unrestricted pursuit of natural resources by big business.

Mitch doesn't appreciate being slighted like that.

5. How about this, Mitch:
"The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president."

You said it, Mitch.

9. Well, then Mitch, why are Republicans trying to sink the economy?
Are they just trying to help make your father-in-law richer?

13. I'll be damned--the Democrats actually did something right.
They made the "Republicans are intentionally tanking the economy to improve their chances in 2012" talking point enough of a thing that McConnell felt compelled to respond.
