1. Without even looking I find it believable.
The ATF needs to be extradited to Mexico to stand trial for accessory to multiple murder. After Gov. Perry's fine treatment of a Mexican citizen, I'm sure we can expect them to be treated just as they deserve.

7. What's unbelievable was this Mexican citizen's fine treatment of a 16 year old American citizen.

13. Not really. Murder isn't a new thing in Texas.
But violating international treaties? Have fun with that trend.

14. Executing murderers in Texas is not unusual either.
International treaties do not trump the laws of the States.

15. Congress enacted no law to compel compliance by the states. Thus, Texas
did no wrong.

Well, except the penalty in this case should have been the exact same penalty the murderer imposed on his teenage victim. EXACTLY the same. Stick and all.

16. Is there a concept of nationhood down in Texas?
Is that something else they don't teach in Texas schools?

Thank you, shortsighted Texas, for screwing over every American in a foreign jail.

Do Americans matter to Texans?

2. Yes, millions in recovery act funds. This is real. Link to official government site:
http://www.justice.gov/dag/speeches/2009/dag-speech-091001.html

..."In addition to bringing these intelligence-driven, prosecutor-led cases against cartel leaders and associates, the President’s National Southwest Border Counternarcotics Strategy includes millions in Recovery Act funds to fight crime and drug trafficking, a new arms trafficking working group, and new formal agreements with our partners at the Department of Homeland Security, law enforcement, and the government of Mexico to increase cooperation that is vitally needed as we carry out this fight on several fronts."

8. As much as that seems like...
it's really chump change to the US Government. It's smaller than the groundscare budget for the National Park Service to maintain The Mall and The Ellipse and around the monuments...but not the monuments' grounds themselves as those are budgeted separately.

It also represents less than twenty-five-percent-of-a-day of the federal payroll for metro DC alone.

9. OK
Mail the $10M my way then. If it's change, I'll find something fun to blow it on that isn't a fiasco. ;)

10. Oh I agree.
I could think of a lot better shit to use $10M on than to buy guns to be used to kill federal agents. I'd wager that this was never even scrutinized as a line-item though or questioned what the money was buying really.

11. Project Gunrunner began in 2006
HistoryATF began Project Gunrunner as a pilot project in Laredo, Texas, in 2005 and expanded it as a national initiative in 2006. Project Gunrunner is also part of the Department’s broader Southwest Border Initiative, which seeks to reduce cross-border drug and firearms trafficking and the high level of violence associated with these activities on both sides of the border.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Gunrunner

OperationsBy early 2009, Project Gunrunner had resulted in approximately 650 cases by ATF, in which more than 1,400 defendants were referred for prosecution in federal and state courts and more than 12,000 firearms were involved.<10>

According to the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO), during FY 2007 and 2008, ATF conducted twelve eTrace training sessions for Mexican police (over 961 Mexican police officers) in several Mexican cities, including the same cities where corrupt police were disarmed and arrested: Mexico City, Tijuana, Nuevo Laredo, and Matamoros.<11> Despite the GAO report, ATF now claims (October 2010) only about 20 people have been trained to use eTrace in Mexico.<12> This discrepancy has not been explained
