CBS: Sarah Palin Criticized Over Gabrielle Giffords Presence on "Target List"

We do not yet know what prompted 22-year-old accused gunman Jared Loughner to allegedly shoot Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) and others, including a child and federal judge who died from their wounds.

But critics of Sarah Palin have already drawn a link between the shooting and the fact that the former Alaska governor put Giffords on a "target list" of lawmakers Palin wanted to see unseated in the midterm elections.

In March, Palin released a map featuring 20 House Democrats that used crosshairs images to show their districts. (You can see it here.) Critics suggested at the time that she was inciting violence by using the crosshairs imagery and for later writing on Twitter to her supporters, "'Don't Retreat, Instead - RELOAD!'"

"We're paying particular attention to those House members who voted in favor of Obamacare and represent districts that Senator John McCain and I carried during the 2008 election," Palin wrote when she released the target list.

She specifically cited Giffords and then went to say: "We'll aim for these races and many others."http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20027918-503544.html?tag=cbsnewsMainColumnArea

16. It reminds me of the meaness and bullying in schools that "cool" kids think is cute - until someone
commits suicide.

10. The Republican establishment wishes to be rid of Palin, and this
provides them with a way to accomplish that wish.

27. The establishment are those Sarah Palin calls "bluebloods," like the
Bushes and those who have been their political allies. The Republicans who have been unchallenged in power up to recently are very much threatened by the Teabaggers, who are not necessarily willing to go along with what the establishment Republicans want. The Teabagger freshmen congresspeople have been pretty bumptious already, causing a lot of trouble for the Republican leadership.

We have heard a lot recently from the actual establishment Republicans who have been badmouthing Palin, sometimes slyly, but sometimes bluntly (like Scarborough, for example, who has been pretty darned blunt). They do NOT want her in the field during the 2012 primaries, because she actually could win a Republican primary, but they fear she couldnt win a general election--or that even if she somehow did win a general election, she would not be as controllable as they need their mindless figureheads to be. Even now they cannot keep her on the reservation, so they don't want her anywhere near actual power. In fact, I predict that if it ever looks like she could win actual power, they would do something drastic to prevent it.

Right now the establishment Republicans are scared of the Teabagegrs--both the grassroots folks and the candidates they elect. They need their energy and passion, but they have trouble keeping them under control.

28. I'm saying that the teabaggers control the party now and the Bushes and people like
McConnell are now longer in control. Also Boehner is totally under control of the teabaggers now, he has to follow their lead. They know and he knows it.

This is the new republican party and they can't be controlled by any of the old "leaders".

Palin, Bachmann, DeMint, Ron Paul, Rand Paul, and Limbaugh are now in control.

9. The one good thing that came out of all this - Palin is done.
Mark it and strike it. She will never get elected to anything again and her name is disgraced.

11. LA Times: Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords shot, at least 5 killed in rampage at event with voters
Giffords' Tucson office was vandalized a few hours after the House voted to approve the health care law in March, with someone either kicking or shooting out a glass door and window. In an interview after the vandalism, Giffords referred to the animosity against her by conservatives. Palin listed Giffords' seat as one of the top "targets" in the midterm elections because of the lawmakers' support for the health care law.

"For example, we're on Sarah Palin's targeted list, but the thing is, that the way that she has it depicted has the crosshairs of a gun sight over our district. When people do that, they have to realize that there are consequences to that action," Giffords said in an interview with MSNBC.

Now if it can only get some traction. She should be held accountable for inciting violence.

14. I bet we hear a disclaimer from Palin on her Facebook
Edited on Sat Jan-08-11 08:02 PM by JohnnyRingo
I predict she'll firmly denounce this act of violence, adding "from both sides" to imply the guilt is spread evenly left and right, and that this time it was a Democrat.

I'm sure Sarah will not fail to offend. it's what she does best.

18. NYTimes: Rep. Giffords Critical After Ariz. Attack

During the fall campaign, Sarah Palin, the former Republican vice-presidential candidate, posted a controversial map on her Facebook page depicting spots where Democrats were running for re-election; those Democrats were noted by crosshairs symbols like those seen through the scope of a gun. Ms. Giffords was among those on Ms. Palin’s map, which later removed the crosshairs symbols.

21. Palin was very, very specific
She narrowed it down to a very few candidates. Giffords was one of them.

The other ones should be getting round-the-clock protection.

23. I put on my full-body rubber suit...
...and waded into the sewer over in the parallel universe at FReeperworld.

One of the resident loons pointed out that the "targets" on Palin's hitlist map were NOT "rifle scopes," they were "surveyor's marks."

(But you'd havta be a librul commie babykiller muslin soshillist nazi to not know that, I guess.)

Thought I'd pass that "correction" along.

I wonder how long it will take for Fox News and Rightwing radio shows to make Palin out to be the victim.
