sarah palin Movie Review: 'The Undefeated' Is 'Not A Good Film'

The first thing that's wrong with the new documentary glorifying former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is the title.

"The Undefeated" profiles Palin's rise as a national heroine to the tea party, but it fails to mention that she's actually been defeated. Setting aside the 2008 presidential race when her party's ticket did not claim the White House, Palin lost a 2002 GOP primary for lieutenant governor.

The flick, set to debut Tuesday in the small town of Pella, Iowa, is a flattering portrait of Palin as someone unafraid to take on her own party's bosses. There's little doubt Palin, who did not participate in production of "The Undefeated," will be pleased with the final result. But it's not a good film.

Roll Call recently viewed the movie at the RightOnline gathering of 1,500 conservative activists and bloggers hosted by Americans for Prosperity in Minneapolis.

'Triumph des Willens' is a spectacular piece of cinematography in support of a horrific ideology. Riefenstahl was a particularly gifted cinematographer in service to a vile monster; whoever made Palin's movie lacks both her artistry and similar evil to promote. Palin is contemptible, but she's no Hitler.

As would be a movie about someone as vapid and clueless as Palin

Hitler was, in his essence, a very pedestrian, unintelligent fool

As for Palin, it all depends on how much rope she gets, although Bachmann is the real threat

Anyone who thinks Riefenstahl's imagery is "boring" probably thinks "Transformers" is great cinema.

My point is we give that movie more credit than it's worth - we act as if we were all caught in its sway, seduced by the camera -

5. Perhaps I am showing my age, but "The Undefeated" was a movie

starring John Wayne and Rock Hudson, was it not? John Wayne as the former Union cavalry commander trying to sell horses to the Emperor Maximilian, and Rock Hudson as the "undefeated" Confederate trying to find a new life in Mexico for his diehard Confederate followers?

And both stymied and forced to compromise and change course by the Second Mexican Revolution against the French invaders?

Anyway. All of the characters, be they former Union, former Confederate, Mexican revolutionary, even French occupiers, surely had more honor than Sarah Palin, who has absolutely no idea what the word means.
