The birds, the poor little birds.
As I've mentioned before, I'm being foreclosed upon, and haven't been able to acquire reasonable income for three years. Last fall, in an effort to not use what I cannot pay for, I shut down all electrical that wasn't critical to the house. One thing that was killed was the pump for my water feature, which when off means there's no water available for wildlife.

So far I hadn't noticed too much, because I've been busy trying to get things into storage and such. Today is our first really hot day, so I'm idling until dark and cooler temps. And my heart is just breaking. I hadn't realized that I may have been the only water available for the near neighborhood (I'm in a desert). They keep hovering and lighting upon the water feature and quite literally panting, which I've never seen before. I'm tempted to turn it back on and just let it run till the electric company cuts off the electricity.

Golly, it's so sad.

2. I'm so sorry
Do you have a hose and a sprinkler? Could you put that near the water feature and turn it on now and then?

My best wishes are for you to be safe. I'm so sorry.

4. I already packed them, they're in the storage unit. I'm getting a bucket over there though.

6. Adding to OP: I just didn't realize that they were that dependent
on my water feature, so I just feel so bad. Had I realized sooner, I'd have put something out, but my head has been firmly on my own stuff and my own troubles.

What a jerk I can be.

7. (( Lionessa ))
This is so poignant. Thank you for caring about the birds in the midst of your own life struggle ... even the sparrow.

9. It hadn't occurred to me just how spoiled our birds are
here in TN. There's a pond across the road and even though there's plenty of natural food, we put out seed and nectar (for the hummers).
