Glenn Beck Tearfully Recounts Last Nights's ‘Hostile Situation’ Bryant Park Movie "Almost Lynched"
Edited on Tue Jun-28-11 03:58 PM by RamboLiberal
On his radio show today, Glenn Beck spent 12 minutes talking about his and his family’s experience last night at New York’s Bryant Park, which screens movies on Monday nights during the summer.

It was his adult daughter’s idea to attend the screening of Alfred Hitchcock‘s “The 39 Steps.” And it didn’t take long for the packed crowd to recognize Beck. “Somebody kicked a cup of wine intentionally onto my wife’s back so she was completely wet, our blanket was wet.” Beck later heard one guy shout, “We hate conservatives here.”

Still, Beck and his family sat through the movie, a move his security detail questioned today. “I have a right to enjoy a movie with my family in a park,” he said.

“I apologize to anyone who had their movie experience wrecked because of the people that found it so necessary to spew hatred.”

http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/glenn-beck-tearfully-recounts-hostile-situation-during-bryant-park-movie-night_b73553#more-73553

He also compared himself as a potential victim of lynching, saying:

If I had suggested, and I almost did, “Wow, does anybody have a rope? Because there’s tree here. You could just lynch me.’ And I think there would have been a couple in the crowd that would have.

Beck was also incredulous that Gawker would choose to point out that he was sitting on an American flag quilt, and at the same time hilariously illustrates why people harass him in the first place: "I didn't pick the blanket, I'm sorry. It's the one we happened to have, sorry you didn't like it, I thought you loved America." While it's true that Gawker hates America, we do find it hard to believe that a jingoistic talk-show "historian" who makes at least $32 million a year only owns a single blanket with an American flag on it.

We have a right to tell you that we hate your fucking guts.

The park is there because your ancestors were entirely unlike you.

16. He went there just so he could martyr his family and cry about the mean libruls
He knew damn well he'd get recognized and jeered at the minimum (I already think that intentional 'wine-throwing' is pure bullshit)...If something escalated and punches got thrown, so much the better for him...

5. Doofus was abusing the flag - How dare he lay his butt on it!

Glenn Beck along with his wife and one of his daughters showed up in Bryant Park last night to catch the Hitchcock movie 39 Steps. "All I wanted to do is go out on a blanket with my family and have dinner in the afternoon sun and sit around." While in theory this is a completely reasonable request, it seems a tad disconnected from reality, which shouldn't surprise anyone. Beck said on his morning radio show that from the moment he arrived, the vibe was "hostile," and that someone apparently kicked a glass of wine (which they shouldn't have had!) over on his wife's back. When she got up to use the restroom, someone pointed at her and supposedly shouted, "We hate conservatives here!"

Beck and his family refused to leave after the jeering because, "I have a right to watch a movie and enjoy a movie with my family in the park." He also apologized to anyone who had their movie experience ruined by "the people that found it so necessary to spew hatred." This seems sincere, because when you don't feel like hearing Beck spew hatred, at least you can change the channel.

It's the one we happened to have, sorry you didn't like it, I thought you loved America." 33. US flag as ground cover, oops, violation of flag code §8:2,3,4
Edited on Fri Jul-01-11 10:50 AM by w0nderer
violation of flag code §8:2,3,4

using statutes cause i know them better
which would mean possibly

up to 60 days imprisonment and up to $500 fine if i read this right

quote
-----
Flag Code
From: http://www.ushistory.org/betsy/flagcode.htm

§8. Respect for flag

No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America; the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing. Regimental colors, State flags, and organization or institutional flags are to be dipped as a mark of honor.

1. The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.
2. The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise.
3. The flag should never be carried flat or horizontally, but always aloft and free.
4. The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery. It should never be festooned, drawn back, nor up, in folds, but always allowed to fall free. Bunting of blue, white, and red, always arranged with the blue above, the white in the middle, and the red below, should be used for covering a speaker's desk, draping the front of the platform, and for decoration in general.
---------
end quote

US Flag code doesn't define penalties, it leaves that up to state statutes

--edited below--

http://public.leginfo.state.ny.us/LAWSSEAF.cgi?+&QUERYDATA=FLAG+&SEARCH=SEA+&BROWSER=BROWSER+&TOKEN=52084759&TARGET=VIEW

pretty much copies US flag code, couldn't find penalty on a fast search

in Florida (where there is another Bryant park) it could have been 60 days imprisonment and $500 fine

edit: remove Florida Statutes
replaced with: NY statutes

6. Couple of points
1st (and foremost) - he made his bed. Too bad his family must suffer (suspect they suffer quite a bit) for this.

2nd - people need to recognize that Beck (and the rest of them) do not make policy and, with the exception of the situation in 1991 that he refuses to talk about - LOL, these people do not directly harm anyone. Words are words and we must defend even those that piss us off.

3rd - what the hell is up with his crying all the time?

4th - since no one threw a punch (drinks get knocked over all the time at outdoor events) - I have no problem with this. Freedom of speech means that you can say what you want - It also means that I can call you an asshole if I disagree. Looks like everyone enjoyed the 1st Amendment that day.

13. A general observation
that when you are controversial and wine is served to crowd a logical behavioral consequence could ensue at any time. He got off lightly and has poor survival instincts for an uber a$$hat.

When he starts thinking about his family instead of himself, belatedly he'll likely really start whining and blubbering.

Our wise pundit class slumming in the broad daylight they think they own.

I don't feel bad for him but the man should be free to attend a public park without fear of being harassed. If someone did in fact yell that out, he is a fucking idiot. And why does his wife deserve to have wine spilled on her, exactly? Come on, we are better than that!

14. Rips NY twentysomethings
Edited on Tue Jun-28-11 04:14 PM by RamboLiberal
Then, for almost ten minutes, Beck went on an extended rant against New Yorkers and the type of twentysomethings that harassed him. "These people were some of the most hateful people I had ever seen," he said. "I was told a lot last night about how New York hates people like me."

"I really feel sorry for you," he continued. "Here you are, 25 years old, and you are so lost and so arrogant and so convinced that you are absolutely 100 percent right. And you are helping craft a system that is fueled by hate. You're being used, and you don't even know it. You're building a system fueled by the very things you say you hate: special interests, the rich, the powerful, global corporations — that’s who's pulling your string."

http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2011/06/new_yorkers_turned_on_glenn_be.html

No Glenn, it's you, Faux & all the Repukes & Tea Partiers who's string is being pulled by "special interests, the rich, the powerful, global corporations".

The twentysomethings that "harassed" you see right through your crying schtick!

15. If only Hitchcock himself were there to terrorize him
I do love that he's on a flag blanket, though: it proves he's a patriot for anyone questioning his credentials. But the poor flag! Glenn had some Italian sausage for lunch and proceeded to fart all over it. And you know Glenn's farts smell terrible. It was a very uncomfortable evening for Glenn and the flag.

The man spews the most vile things against basically half of the country that DON'T agree with ANYTHING the man says.

And he expects to be treated like a normal, non-judgmental citizen in public? Give me a break.

Welcome to reality, Glenn. You WANTED to be controversial, now you're bitching about some people verbally criticizing you?

Show us the actual physical scars from this "battle with liberals", Glenn. Or STFU.

18. So, he expected otherwise?
I won't go into the appropriateness of what "he says" he experienced, but just what does he expect the result of his sermons to be?

I think he is rather fortunate that the response was so muted. People may have been showing far more respect and self-control than may seem obvious, there.

Maybe he will affix a Scarlett letter to his body and cry some more? It sounds like he was gathering material at that event.

With his kind of money, I would suggest that he do like the other wealthy manipulators, hang-out at exclusive events and go to upper-scale venues where we riff-raff are not allowed to congregate. Or, is he saying they really don't want him around, also?

21. K&R (can't believe it's ONLY #1) for, bwah-ha-HAH!1 Every time BecKKK ventures into real life,
as when he was hospitalized for his hemorroids, he just can't *bear* the reality. Plus, Gawker quoted the wine-spiller's friend who said it was not intentional, that apologies and offers of napkins and help were extended, AND it was less than half a glass that tipped over - "why would we waste wine?!1" -

And as usual, Gawker's take was delicious, saying that for "hostility" and hatefulness that BecKKK had never seen before, he should have taken a look at the Baggers at his own rally.

Edited on Tue Jun-28-11 05:34 PM by RamboLiberal
I was on the blanked directly behind Mr. Beck, and while we did find it amusing that wine was spilled on Tanya & co, I can tell you that it was 100% accidental. My friend was drinking her wine and it tipped over, as wine glasses are wont to do. We immediately helped Tanya & co clean up the "mess" and offered them our napkins, and apologies were made. There was no hostility or animosity in the exchange, and I find it hard to believe that a half-filled glass of wine would be capable of "soaking" anyone, even waif-thin Tanya. Moreover, why would we waste the wine?

KO or MSNBC needs to book the wine spiller. Or maybe Colbert or Stewart or Maher!

Stephanie Miller should get her on as well.
