Terrytown man found with pipe bombs was only having fun, according to family

A Terrytown man who crashed his car Monday morning led authorities to uncover a cache of pipe bombs told authorities that he had the devices for "entertainment," according to his mother.

Tony Barisich, 53, remains in stable condition at a Thibodeaux hospital after his 1998 GMC truck flipped over on Louisiana 308 near Lockport on Monday night, said his mother, Zdneka Barisich.

The crash led Louisiana State Police to 10 pipe bombs and two store-bought fireworks devices stashed in Barasich's truck bed. The wreck also has sparked an investigation involving the Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms Bureau.

Trooper Bryan Zeringue said that police believe Barisich was traveling the highway, misjudged a curve and flipped into a ditch after his truck struck a guardrail. When emergency crews arrived at the scene and righted the vehicle, they found the explosives which were constructed of plastic pipe and metal. Traffic on the highway was diverted for eight hours, and authorities eventually detonated the pipe bombs in a nearby cane field
