In Response To Choking Allegations, Fox’s Van Susteren Calls On Female Chief Justice To Resign
Over the weekend, the Wisconsin State Journal reported that Justice David Prosser "grabbed fellow Justice Ann Walsh Bradley around the neck in an argument in her chambers last week, according to at least three knowledgeable sources." Bradley later confirmed the report:

Supreme Court Justice Ann Walsh Bradley late Saturday accused fellow Justice David Prosser of putting her in a chokehold during a dispute in her office earlier this month.

"The facts are that I was demanding that he get out of my office and he put his hands around my neck in anger in a chokehold," Bradley told the Journal Sentinel.

Prosser has made a blanket denial but refuses to discuss the incident. Other anonymous sources are claiming that Prosser grabbed Bradley’s neck in self defense.

In response, Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren has called for the resignation not of Prosser but Chief Justice Shirley Abrahamson:

And while I have no idea who is off the wall (Justice Prosser or Justice Walsh or both), I do know one thing, CHIEF JUSTICE SHIRLEY ABRAHAMSON sure is not doing her job to lead the court and to give confidence to the people of Wisconsin. She needs to step aside and let someone else attempt to run that zoo.

30. They don't seem to be lifts so much as they are rearrangements
and unless they are being done for medical reasons I also think she would do much better to leave well enough alone. She looks physically uncomfortable.

16. Greta and Prosser are from the same hometown and
I would bet he and her father, Judge Urban Van Susteren (Repub) were cronies for years when Prosser was younger and starting out. Both from Appleton, WI. Did she reveal that?

It's embarrassing that anything like this would occur at a supreme court.

The problem with that is who gets to replace them.

Have we yet to learn the lesson that has been proven true over and over and over?

Just because we agree with someone politically doesn't make them a nice person. It doesn't mean that they will always live up to our expectations. Just because the opponent is a jerk (think breitbart) doesn't mean that our guy is squeeky clean.

There's every indication that both justices acted well outside the bounds of civil behavior.

Were it not for who would replace them (with much younger and much more conservative justices), I would love to see both of them resign.

There are three sources for what happened in that room (apart from the two justices of course). Two of them indicated that her actions were also aggressive and preceded the supposed choking. The third doesn't say what preceded it.

There isn't anyone who says that he just up and choked her.

Two agencies are reportedly investigating, so we should know more soon enough.

28. I wasn't in the room.
Two sources told reporters that she charged him with fists raised and that when she then accused him of choking her she was told by one justice that it wasn't true.

As I said... I wasn't in the room. But at least two people who were say that she initiated the physical portion of the conflict. That doesn't justify him putting his hands on her neck... but his actions also don't clear her of the similarly serious allegations.

This also isn't anything new. The two have had a childish relationship for years.

Which "two sources" would those be? Prosser and a representative from Kochs' Americans For Prosperity? Prosser and something you heard on Sean Hannity's radio show? Prosser and something someone said on Fox News and Friends?

37. That's what's in the reporting.
It's clear that it wasn't her or Prosser... and pretty clear that nobody was in the room apart from other SC justices.

Edited on Tue Jun-28-11 10:09 AM by sofa king
Remember the GOP lie-cycle:

Monday: Deny

Tuesday: Tell a new lie

Wednesday: Attack your accusers

Thursday: Distract

Friday: That's an old story.

Today is "come up with a new lie" day. You can't attack your accusers if you have not already seeded the field with a new untruth that muddles the circumstances of the issue. Greta needs to go back and study the Karl Rove manual.

Edit: This issue doesn't really rise to national importance, but just in case those of you planning to fly on Thursday may wish to pad a little extra time into your plans. The terrorists don't like it when the Republicans are on their back foot.

32. Yeah, when somebody gets choked by a psycho colleague
it's always reasonable to assume the possibility that the choking victim herself is "off the wall" and might have deserved it. Also, as Van Susteran helpfully points out, Chief Justice Abrahamson clearly failed to do her job as Chief Justice and employ her magic clairvoyance to prevent Prosser from throttling Bradley in the first place.

Good lapdog, Greta, good lapdog. Rupert just might renew your contract now.
