There is a lot of legitimate news on all of the morning/evening news programs. "News" being stuff that increases your knowledge about what is going on in this world. I don't take the term "news" to be interchangeable with "facts," it's just stuff you should know. There is also the "know your enemy" aspect. Then there is this to consider...Today Show. Good Morning America. CBS..whatever they call it (does anyone actually watch CBS?)...is that better? I suppose I could watch Fox & BFF's. Or maybe an early-morning informercial for the ABThighButt-O-Master.
The sad fact is, out of everything offered on my 600-channel (exaggerating) cable line-up, I've found MSNBC in the morning to be the most consistently interesting and varied program. A lot of it infuriates me, but so does my son who moved back home and won't wash any dishes. The key is knowing where they're coming from. They're still reporting news, but they're slanting it, and I often grab my iPhone and check the sources they're quoting in the Chyron. So spare me, please. I don't agree that watching nothing and being woefully uninformed is better than reviewing a broad perspective of information sources. I know people that watch no news at all. They can tell me all about Mythbusters and the Third Reich and Chef Whatshisname, but they don't know that there was an earthquake in Japan. I'll opt for getting as much information as possible and then sorting it out rather than crawling under my blankie and pretending everything is OK.
