Rachel Maddow Show Today Was Awesome - Calls Out Republicans For Sabotaging Economy
chris Hayes, Washington editor for The Nation magazine, talked with Rachel Maddow about lengths to which Republicans are going, including opposing their own proposals and hurting the U.S. economy, to undermine President Obama. Rachel Maddow went through a thorough review of the incredible hypocrisy of Republicans, which is absolutely inexplicable unless you accept the fact that Republicans are trying to trash the economy for political gain. They want the Nation to come close to a default, so that interest rates shoot up, then they can blame it on federal spending, rather than their craven efforts to destabalize the economy.

So, kudos to Rachel Maddow and Chris Hayes for doing what is rarely done in the corporate media these days, which is to hold Republicans accountable. Rather than simply presenting the truth as choice between competing talking points, they broke down the facts, and ripped through Republican lies.

4. well she was doing pretty good
until she hit Republicans for not supporting the fucking payroll tax holiday bullshit.

That's fine if you think the payroll tax holiday is really a good idea, but since it is merely a huge giveaway to giant corporations in the hope that this will trickle down into job creation, then I don't know why a progressive would want to hit Republicans for opposing it. Personally, I would rather hit Obama for PRO-posing it. Anybody who is opposing it, even for reasons of partisanship - is on my side in this battle.

Republicans are probably gonna come out in three days, after Democrats have set up this argument for them, and say "well, yes, we oppose the idea, because the President's proposal is "too small" - "the giveaway to big business, er, I mean the tax holiday, should be much larger to really kick-start the economy."

Suddenly, we (by which I mean the corporate stooges leading our party and our media) will have idiotically set this up for them, because everybody knows that if some payroll tax holiday is good, then more must be better.

The bottom line, which Rachel apparently does not understand, is the PAYROLL TAX HOLIDAY IS BULLSHIT.

5. I'm pretty sure she understands.
Her point was, Republican's only conviction is to the principle of electoral self interest. The interests of the country always takes a back seat to their political ends. They have no deep rooted fiscal principles that can't be nixed when a democrat is in charge. Her point about the payroll tax was, had a Republican been President, they'd be trumpeting this as great fiscal policy. She most certainly wasn't promoting the policy, she was using this as an example to underscore the hypocrisy of Republicans that will sacrifice their principles and the good of the economy if they think it will help them score points in the next election cycle.
