I've been thinking of the 2500+ homes flooded in Minot, N.D.

the trash

2500+ trashed frigds., stoves, hot water tanks, ACs, furnaces, wall board, flooring, etc.

and of the profits to be made from trucking all that away. and the sorting of the trash.

and the profit made off the stuff used to get rid of the mold that will be growing by the second. cause you can't rebuild until the mold is gone, etc.

and can the 2500+ home owners afford to replace, rebuild, and live somewhere else while doing it?

and the farms. the cost of trucking animals to higher ground and feeding and cleaning them there. and when can they come back? the cost of trashing, cleaning rebuilding barns, etc.

I know I left out much more.

oh the tears that have fallen, are falling.

and Minot is just one tiny place on the flood waters jaunt to the Gulf of Death

2. It's more than starting over, assuming they have the money.
Most of them are obligated to pay mortgages on homes that are now uninhabitable.

4. I don't know. I've been thinking about the people in Minot.
I'm not so concerned about their stuff. Lots of horror stories for the people.

Those who could took their stuff with them. Even the refrigerators. Those who couldn't, didn't.

All are suffering from their loss. It's not the cost or profits that concern them right now, I'm pretty sure.

5. Disasters can be good economic stimulators.
Assuming there is plenty of insurance money and fema money.

6. It is a tragedy, for sure. However, it is an ill wind indeed that blows
nobody any good. There will be career opportunities in cleaning up these messes, and perhaps, doing some things to prevent (dike building, sandbags, etc.). We must look for new jobs to replace those shipped off by the megacorps. It will be rough but Americans are clever and can do.
