In an apparent "good will" mission, the Youngstown area Tea Party was sponsoring a "Treats For The Troops" campaign that collected "Twimkies, cookies, and other sweets that remind the boys overseas of home". As I watched, I wondered if the troops in Afghanistan were really deprived of Hostess products, but quickly decided to accept at face value that what they're doing is at least positive.
The camera then went Lisbon Ohio, a mosty white semi-rural community nearby, where donations were being accepted in front of the local GOP headquarters. I began to wonder why they didn't choose a very populous Youngstown city location for the drive, but figured that's probably where most of the area Tea Party members live.
As the reporter continued with the story, while the camera panned the parking lot, I saw the big tent where people were bent over signing something. Hanging from the table was a large banner that read: "Reform Health care". I know from experience last summer at a car show, that inquiring about that sign leads to the question of whether you want to "fix our health care system". They then offer a petition to repeal what they call "ObamaCare" in Ohio. The tent attendants in charge are generally of Medicare age who, once again by my experience, are quick to explain that they "deserve" what they get from the government.
I'm back to referring to them as Tea Baggers. They deserve it. They always will.
