Perhaps this is the truth that lies behind Obama's definite but limited successes thus far.

Mr. President, forget the Republicans. You can play golf with them all you want, you can compromise with them all you want, but you are not going to win them over no matter what you do. It is that simple. Really. Concentrate your efforts on the people who actually voted for you in 2008, and now are looking for reasons to vote for you again in 2012.
