Anyone else notice that Newspapers are now putting ads on the front page?
The other day I passed by the Oakland Tribune and SF Chronicle newspaper vendors - and all of them had huge, red CVS ads above the fold, on the front page.

When I was in journalism, that was considered a big no no, but I guess times have changed

When did this start happening?

1. Probably around the time that newspapers began realizing that their print editions were doomed

3. Ours started putting stick-on square ads in the upper right corner a year or so ago.
They are usually for stupid shit, but at least it helps keep the paper coming to the driveway each morning. The on-line edition just isn't as complete as the print version and I'll be really sad if the paper ever goes away. It just isn't the same trying to read a computer screen while sitting on the head.

4. Yes, and I find it outrageous. My local is a Tribune subsidiary.

5. Years ago, the Chicago Tribune had an oil company ad on the Editorial Page.
I did a quick search, but there's a lot unrelated info that comes up and I'm lousy at searches--there was a bit of an outcry over it.

Yes, I've noticed the ads on the front page.

6. The whole thing is an advertisement, they just convinced you parts of it were "news" n/t
