Neil Patrick Harris, David Burtka To Marry:Gay Marriage Passage
Gay Marriage Passage Enables Stars To Wed
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/06/25/neil-patrick-harris-david-burtka-engaged_n_884486.html

Updated
Neil Patrick Harris clarified his engagement status with Burtka -- they've been engaged for a long time now!

"David and I did propose to each other, but over five years ago! We've been wearing engagement rings for ages, waiting for an available date," the star tweeted Saturday morning.

Original story
Neil Patrick Harris, the "How I Met Your Mother" star and Tonys host, became engaged late Friday night to his longtime partner, actor/chef David Burtka. Earlier in the night, Harris tweeted words of encouragement to the State Senate and said he'd "sure love to get married," and following the law's passage, Burtka took to Twitter and announced that the two were getting hitched.

"I'd sure love to get married. Please, NY Senate, vote in favor of marriage equality today. My family would really appreciate it," Harris wrote before the vote; once it was passed, he tweeted his excitement, saying, "It PASSED! Marriage equality in NY!! Yes!! Progress!! Thank you everyone who worked so hard on this!! A historic night!"

4. Oh, come on.
If women are willing to do this, and this couple wants a family, why not?

Family is defined in many new ways in the twenty-first century.

15. I finally figured it out!
You know those bigot groups like FOTF, NOM, the Catholic League, and so on can't keep their mouths shut about gay marriage - only to spew the bile and garbage they call values? Their values are no longer relevant!!! Ahahahahahahaha...

17. I see that my question was deleted.
Any one care about Over Population??? And I just am curious as to how much a woman would receive for carrying twins. There are so many unwanted children in this country who want to be adopted. Duh. Everyone thinks their egg/sperm is so special.

I'm simply not a fan of his....he's gay yet plays a total sexist pig in the TV show and he thinks that's just fine. Sorry, if you don't like my opinion of his actions.

You have to realize I lived in SF in the '70's thru mid-90's. My generation of gays are dead and I watched them die a horrible, painful deat. They would never want to get married, move to the burbs and have 'breeders' provide babies for them.

I don't see why this is deleted. I am from a very different generation...and my generation deserves respect just as yours does. Get married...and let the State into your lives.

It'll be great for the NY economy! I bet gays have much better receptions than straights....well, I certainly hope so.

23. -1000 Maybe it shouldn't be deleted, but it should be panned.
I'm glad to know you are the person to speak for an entire generation of gays.

25. Have you adopted any of those unwanted children?
For the record, I have not adopted anyone. I do have three planned children, who are now adults.

My brother lives in San Francisco.

Yes, the AIDS pandemic was and is terrible. Blame Reagan. It is just one of his many crimes.

7. WTF?
Edited on Sat Jun-25-11 02:47 PM by Rob H.
Your post is both demeaning to women who choose to be surrogates and has a none-too-subtle undercurrent of homophobia, too.

Thanks for looking at a positive OP and pissing all over it almost immediately, though. Nicely done. :sarcasm:

Edit: missing word and word choice.

18. See #17
if not already deleted. I explain where I'm coming from.

I have yet to find a woman who 'wants' to be a surrogate...it's usually a question of financial need. Just like having to be a stripper. Never mind all the unwanted children who are sitting in foster care.

We are from totally different generations....therefore, mindsets.

21. I would be a surrogate if asked
And I would not require payment beyond any out-of-pocket medical expenses. If a couple (gay or straight) wanted biological children and could not conceive without assistance, I would be happy to help them create a family if I were allowed/able to do so. I understand your POV with regard to unwanted children, the possibility of adoption and so forth but that is for every individual/couple to decide for themselves.

22. No one wants to
take responsibility for their over-populated community. I just don't think one's egg/sperm is that special.

And if complications occurred w/ your pregnancy....then what?? People should get pets first....then see. Bringing a human being onto this Earth is the most incredible responsibility there is. Of course, with lots of money, as that actor has, life for the child and parent is much easier.

Money allows one to ignore others and what might be appropriate for the community.

I remember in 'my day' being referred to as a 'breeder' and it wasn't a good thing. Of course, I was one of those who didn't think it was necessary to reproduce.

We've moved so far to the Right....I don't think we'll ever find our way back to Cooperation/Progressive views. Everyone simply wants to do whatever they want with no consideration for the community.

Goddess, I miss my old gay friends...we had such fun. They died so young. I have photos of people at a party...and I'm the only one still living.

I hope you don't find yourself having a child and giving it to someone else....it seems so 'broodmare-ish.' I grew up on a farm.

Thank you for not attacking me.

If these two can last for five years with that kind of schedule, I think that this bodes well for them.

Congrats, Fellas!

13. "Barney" has replaced "Doogie" in my mind
"How I Met Your Mother" is one of my favorite shows, and his portrayal of the womanizing Barney always cracks me up.
