To be sure, this came from the grass roots. A real coalition pushed and pushed and pushed some more.

Supporters persisted and never gave up.

But when it comes down to it, getting laws passed requires leadership. The governor of New York was in this one to win. Whether his support counted for 1% or 99% doesn't matter. His support counted. It mattered.

He took a stand.

Mario must be proud of his boy, I am sure.

2. It certainly helps
But only if the leader represents the will of the people, and not the corporations.

3. New York's last two governors were also pro-gay-marriage. They aren't getting to sign it, though.
There's a lot of positives to Andrew Cuomo, but this really belongs to the people on the ground--particularly those in NYC who kept challenging bad Democrats in safe seats.

4. Andrew brought it home. He likely contributed to some vote flipping by giving reason to . . . .
. . . . constituents of recalcitrant legislators reason to pressure their reps to vote the right way.

I agree that the grass roots is where this came from. I acknowledged that in the OP. We agree.

5. I hope it spills over into PA.
With a tin-eared Repub governor and legislature there's a fat chance that it will ever happen.

I've been so sick and discouraged by much of the news. But finally, something momentous and GOOD that will make this country a better place for everyone.

:applause:
