Chris Hedges: Global revolution must begin in America

Pulitzer-winning author and former New York Times reporter Chris Hedges has a revolutionary worldview. In the video below, his recent “Endgame Strategy” piece for AdBusters is read aloud by George Atherton.

His conclusions are chilling, but not entirely hopeless.

“We will have to take care of ourselves,” he wrote. “We will have to rapidly create small, monastic communities where we can sustain and feed ourselves. It will be up to us to keep alive the intellectual, moral and cultural values the corporate state has attempted to snuff out. It is either that or become drones and serfs in a global corporate dystopia. It is not much of a choice. But at least we still have one.”

This video is from YouTube user wepollock, published June 22, 2011.

8. If you could explain how it is not,
or otherwise tell us how we are not actually headed down that path, you can't imagine how well-received such insights would be around here.

Of course, a response such as yours is rarely a precursor to great insights.

I'm afraid he's pretty much got it right. I'm okay with the brown robe, but I've already got a bald spot...

6. Yep, I think he's spot on.
We're going to have to re-learn how to live regionally, and fast.

13. The Global Revolution already began about 10 years ago,
Edited on Fri Jun-24-11 01:00 PM by bvar22
and has been very successful so far.
The Populist Reforms sweeping across South/Central America are nothing less than (near) bloodless revolutions,
but you won't hear about this from our Media, or from our Political Class who are invested in maintaining the Status Quo.

Latin America has shown us HOW.

"The worst enemy of humanity is U.S. capitalism. That is what provokes uprisings like our own, a rebellion against a system, against a neoliberal model, which is the representation of a savage capitalism. If the entire world doesn't acknowledge this reality, that nation states are not providing even minimally for health, education and nourishment, then each day the most fundamental human rights are being violated."
----Bolivian Reform President Evo Morales

FDR said much the same thing in 1944 with his Economic Bill of Rights,
but you won't hear anything like that from today's New Democrat Centrist Party.
In fact, the current leadership actively demonizes these progressive reforms.

Look South for The Solution.
Until then...

Less IS More!
:hippie:

14. The text version, for those who prefer to read
Available here. I find reading something a lot quicker than sitting through a video of it. YMMV.
