Sweet corn gets NY Senate nod for state vegetable

Published 04:50 a.m., Thursday, June 23, 2011

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — There's sweet news for sweet corn lovers.

New York's Senate has approved a measure that would make sweet corn the official state vegetable.

In a 56-6 vote on Tuesday, corn won out over the other main contender for the title, the onion.

But the issue is still simmering in the Assembly, where the measure has yet to be brought to the floor for a vote.

Now, if only they would finally pass the Marriage Equality bill.

1. If I were a nastier person
I'd call you some choice names right now.

But I'm all sunshine and gingersnaps, so no worries.

You should saute it with some olive oil and fresh pepper...

9. They're using up the time negotiating.
Edited on Thu Jun-23-11 03:42 PM by Unvanguard
What actually happens in the session will be unimportant things until they finalize the "big" pieces of legislation they're negotiating about.

There's really little point in watching right now. We will probably know when they're about to vote; its timing is not determined by corn, but by the Republican conference and the negotiations among the NY state political leadership.

Edit: I don't mean to excuse the bullshit Republican dithering. It's inexcusable and extremely frustrating.
