Pastor outs gay teens in front of the entire church!
I don't think this incident is unique or newsworthy in its own right, so much as it represents an example of something that is unfortunately fairly common in religious circles. There's a Youtube video that shows what happens right out of the horse's mouth. It's just completely fucked up.

http://www.godhatesatheists.net/homosexuality-news/pastor-outs-gay-teens-in-church/

The video I have attached is pretty sad. To an atheist like me, it’s quite enraging. But this is pretty much legal. And I’m proud to live in a country that defends the right of free speech. Unfortunately, with that right comes wrong, in the form of ignorance, superstition, intolerance, and even hate. The video I’m attaching below is not only sad, but it’s also enraging.

I have been to a church service that behaved in this way. If I can just walk into church (I’ve probably been to church less than fifteen times in my life), and somehow discover a service like this, doesn’t that suggest that it’s not too uncommon?

Many churches around this nation present with elaborate worship bands playing, staging, and youthful pastors who connect well with the young people in the audience. The influence is huge. But when the feel-good sermon is over, and the kids return to their daily lives, they don’t forget who was outed. And the silent judgment begins.

...

Outing gay teens is not a very good use of church time. In fact, the pastor here isn’t considering the emotional turmoil that these kids could face if even one unscrupulous student or church member started yapping.

4. I wonder about the motivations of the pastor.
He puts the entire song and dance together to get gay kids to out themselves to him - that's juicy information for a potential molester...

15. SO SAD! Kids are so impressionable, and this was brutal!
People who claim to be christian and do these types of things to another human being especially a child are not christian. They are arrogant, fools who set themselves up to be judge over others which is prohibited according to the Bible. Only GOD can judge another. This man is the abomination and he has no right claiming he is a pastor of anything. In fact, he is probably in it for the money. Those non-profit churches don't have to pay taxes or contribute to the community. the shame is on the pastor and the church members who support such inhumanity. I just repeat what a wise legislator in MO, MN said. " If human sexuality is made by GOD and is an act of the creator, then how many more GAYS does God have to create before the GAYS will be entitled to their equal rights as human beings"??? The question is the heart of the issue. God doesn't make mistakes.

18. These people are despicable. Using fear and guilt to humiliate
people into believing they are not born this way. It's obvious the youth evangelist is rather ignorant. You can tell from the words and conceptual framing he uses that he doesn't know much about humanity but knows a lot about how to manipulate naive young people.

24. I expected the pastor calling out...
...kids from the audience, betraying info that had been given him.
"Johnny get up here and let the congregation know that you are ashamed to be gay like we discussed earlier".

It was more of a guilt trip thing, and I'm not really sure I believe the video. I think it was staged.

With all the religious rhetoric among fundies saying that homosexuality is due to demonic possession & other such nonsense, pounded into kids heads starting in preschool, I'm not surprised that a silver-tongued molester like this preacher managed to talk some teens into coming forward.

Yes, the hard-core fundies are this batshit, and this despicable.

29. chances are he violated an oath he took in regards to private confessions/counseling
in many denominations, there are strict rules about this.

in some beliefs if it was confessed as a sin and the priest repeats it, the "sin" (it's not) is held against the one that broke the oath.

34. In 1989, the pastor of my then-church
forced a young couple who wanted to marry in that church (and were living together,) to stand up and "apologize" for their actions during the Sunday morning service. There were 2500 people there that morning. It was the last straw for me. I walked out, and never went back.

The couple in question were not going to be in danger because of his actions, but the pastor of any church has NO business behaving in this manner. I hope the teens in question quote the words of Christ to him in response to his actions. Then again, I'm sure it would have no effect.

This is absolutely outrageous.

To watch those poor young people, prostrating themselves in front of these charlatans, praying to JAYSUS-UH to "heel their perversion." They've been told there's something wrong with them that needs fixing. Good goddess that's profoundly sad.

36. I wonder...
how many of the teens who answered that altar call are actually high-level members of his Awana group?

I would not put it past a slimy bastard like this preacher to ask non-gay kids who are very active in church to come up when he asked the gays to: "Mary, we know there are people who have been seized by a homosexual devil. They need to cast off their chains and come to the Lord, but they can't do it alone. If you walk to the altar and start praying when I ask for these devil-infested souls to come forward, they'll have the strength to follow you."

My bet: half the "gay teens" who answered this altar call are not gay at all, and most of the gays who went there came because one of their friends asked them to come to a "big fun party" that they found out, too late to back out (the church is 10 miles out of town and if they leave they're gonna have to walk home) is this.
