Poll question: Who does the federal government of the United States mainly represent?
Edited on Thu Jun-23-11 12:44 PM by Better Believe It
By government I include the Supreme Court, Congress and the Executive Branch of the federal government.

One government branch may represent one economic segment of the population more than another branch, however, what is your overall opinion on federal government institutions in general?

2. The Oligarchy that Runs Things is Much Narrower than "The Rich" or "The Corporations"
George Soros and Warren Buffett are super-rich by any standard, but they seem to be on the outside looking in, just like the rest of us.
The people who used to run Leaman Brothers would likely have qualified as super-rich too, until their firm was allowed to crash and burn, while their better-connected competitors (e.g. Goldman Sachs) were bailed out.
I think Martha Stewart was pretty rich too. Just having a lot of money is not enough.

People like the Koch brothers have more power because they use their money to buy politicians outright.

We play fair but they don't.

4. Good point - but Soros and Buffett do have influence
I think it's more that the Washington Culture is biased in favor of corporations; Obama is pretty liberal within the Washington system. It's just that the Washington System seems permanently busted.

9. Given the results so far ... when are all of you moving?
Clearly, the US government hates you.

DO you plan to go somewhere else?

Or ... if you stay ... then what is the plan? 3rd party?

What?

13. Other.
As a simple example.

Obama voted for the bank bailouts before the 2008 election. Some claim that was for the rich. If you have a 401k and are middle class, this helped you.

He also saved the auto industry ... middle class, no?

The HCR bill helps about 30 million uninsured folks get insurance ...

Extended UI benefits ... for those making no money, right?

On edit ...

The notion that the Federal Government only helps the rich is wrong. If it did, there is ZERO safety net.

No unemployment. No SS, No Medicare.

And so, anyone who claims that the Federal government ONLY cares about the rich is absolutely wrong.

11. Golly. I hit the 'Rec' button and it stayed at zero.
Someone doesn't like the subject, I guess. Regarding the rich:

16. SO my 15 yearl old neice who now has insurance ...
In which group is she in?

She had cancer at 2.

Could not get health insurance for anything past colds, or sports injuries.

Now, she is covered if her cancer returns ... is she rich? Military? or Intelligence?

Or, is she just a lower middle class kid who now has health insurance?
