10. Horrible move
I'm an unapologetic proponent of secure borders, the "secure communities" ICE program for deportation, and felony status for any employer that knowingly hires illegal aliens.

Businesses created the "demand" for workers and sub-market wages, and the result is illegal aliens filling the void created by the employers. Both should be eliminated from the equation (illegal aliens and the employers via legislation that severely penalizes them)

In my opinion, we should be actively attempting to prosecute and deport illegals, not provide incentive to stay here.

With 9%+ unemployment and millions more under-employed, there's absolutely no reason we should provide business access to illegal aliens gleefully willing to significantly undercut the employment and earning potential of the American worker.

12. And that's working out really well in Georgia
They need 11,000 farm workers and they need them now. It's going to get much worse. Wait until the rocketing food prices hit us.

13. No kidding!!
Removing the illegal labor that's willing to work for sub-standard wages actually creates demand? Next thing you know the employers will raise wages to alleviate the newly-created labor shortage!

We shouldn't, as a society, seek the cheapest possible illegal labor to maintain artificially low food prices.

14. Also..
The "race to the bottom" economic theory (under the guise of "Free trade") was implemented and employed to excuse and promote the mass transfer of our manufacturing jobs to overseas competitors who don't have the same wage, environmental and regulation protection--all in an effort to spur consumer spending due to an influx of cheap products that our companies and workers couldn't possibly compete with--unless they transferred production overseas as well.

No thanks. I'll gladly pay more if it means I'm protecting an American job.

an hour.

What was it they claimed they were offering again? 13.50 an hour or something? Does anyone honestly believes people would turn down 13.50 an hour jobs when McDonalds was overrun by a million people for jobs that pay half that? If they were ACTUALLY offering 13.50 they'd be overrun with job seekers too.

Weird how there's all these decent paying jobs and no one seems to be able to find them. No searches ever seem to turn up results of anyone actually you know...offering the jobs.

8. Misleading head line from original source. Obama advised "prosecutorial discretion".
Edited on Wed Jun-22-11 09:55 PM by bluerum
The author is using extreme hyperbole equating discretion with full enactment of the dream act. The author appears to be, or is, a rw pos.

actually sound bad. Clearly they're not very good at it.

People enrolled in education are good, regardless of who it is, as long as they're willing to become a citizen. It doesn't really drive down wages. I don't think it's possible to have enough people enlisted in the military to fill it up. They're not gonna Took Our Jerbs.

Edited to add: Holy shit. There's an honest to goodness Klansman in the comments there.

23. While I'm against this
Edited on Thu Jun-23-11 02:44 AM by Oasis_
The comment section is absolutely ablaze. This has the potential (even though it's simply a guideline allowing for prosecutor discretion) to really backfire on the administration.

I've come to the realization and am resigned to the fact we're going to lose the Presidency and Senate in '12. Many friends and family members who voted for Obama swear they will not do so again, despite my vehement protest. Even armed with facts to the contrary, it's difficult to argue with the rising tide of negativity associated with Obama. It's too bad. I hope and pray he overcomes this and wins a second term--but the once favorable odds of him doing so seemingly dwindle every day-- and become increasingly unlikely, unfortunately.

This stuff doesn't help.
