AP Exclusive: Medicaid for the middle class?

By RICARDO ALONSO-ZALDIVAR, Associated Press – 56 mins ago
WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama's health care law would let several million middle-class people get nearly free insurance meant for the poor, a twist government number crunchers say they discovered only after the complex bill was signed.

The change would affect early retirees: A married couple could have an annual income of about $64,000 and still get Medicaid, said officials who make long-range cost estimates for the Health and Human Services department.

After initially downplaying any concern, the Obama administration said late Tuesday it would look for a fix.

Up to 3 million more people could qualify for Medicaid in 2014 as a result of the anomaly. That's because, in a major change from today, most of their Social Security benefits would no longer be counted as income for determining eligibility. It might be compared to allowing middle-class people to qualify for food stamps.

1. OMG MEDICAID FOR THE MIDDLE-CLASS?!!!
Oh the travesty! How dare the working poor be entitled to health insurance that is within their means. Thats un-American! Let them buy a ridiculously expensive product at the same cost it costs billionaires even though its not even a drop in the bucket for the billionaires yet its mostly the difference between health and homelessness for the middle class.

5. What the HCR-bashers keep forgetting is that HCR opens up Medicaid to 16 million new recipients.
In fact, HALF the insurance expansion was through a public program (Medicaid). Yet the bashers keep conveniently leaving that out when they criticize the act.

7. good grief. What the hell is the matter with the Obama administration?
The politicians approach this loophole as if it were a horrible problem. Here's an idea: how about giving Medicaid to everyone?

8. Health care isn't a right, it's a privilege!

Only those who can afford to pay for it should have it!

(Thus sayeth all of those working stiff teabaggers on medicare)

In the teabagger paradise, all the rich folk get their healthcare first, and they wait patiently behind because at least they're ahead of someone else.
