Jon Stewart Has Is Slightly Wrong About Fox News
Fox News' mission is not so much to present the conservative viewpoint of the news. Rather, Fox news' mission is to destroy the concept of truth and therefore destroy journalism. Fox's job is to convince its viewers, and some non-viewers, that there is no such thing as truth. There's only a Liberal or Conservative version of the truth, and depending on your bias, one will accept either version.

Take the WMDs in Iraq as an example. The truth is that there were no WMDs in Iraq. None have been found. However, a significant portion, if not majority, of the Fox News viewers, believe that there were WMDs in Iraq. Why? Because Fox allows conservative commentators, like Sen. Rick Santorum, to use their airwaves to lie about WMDs in Iraq. In the end, the Fox News viewers accept the lie about WMDs because in their eyes there really is no such thing as unbiased truth.

Some may argue that doesn't MSNBC engage in the same sort of tactics? I would disagree. I think that if WMDs were indeed found in Iraq, MSNBC news anchors and commentators would acknowledge that truth. I cannot imagine Rachel Maddow trying to convince her audience that no WMDs were found when there's live video of the WMDs.

Yet, Fox has been successful at creating the idea that MSNBC does the same exact thing as Fox News does. Thus, to the non-partisan public, there is no such thing as an objective truth. No news source can trusted because they "all do the same thing". If Fox News lies, so does MSNBC, so does CNN, so does Current, etc. They're either Liberal or Conservative, so neither can be trusted.

Destroying the public's view of truth is what Fox News is really trying to achieve.

12. The big corporations are maksing record profits, and their executives
are giving themselves record salaries -- at the expense of their workers, who are
barely making ends meet.

These corporations are deliberately destroying the America we know, and changing it
into a Third World nation -- with themselves as the overlords, so that they can
"have it all."

3. That's what Fox does, but their viewers believe the lies are truth
The Right has been constructing a narrative for decades, and any "truth" that doesn't fit that narrative is ignored or assaulted with one of their false constructs.

13. These are the brain-washed. Fox is following the script of "1984" - and Fox has been rather
successful thus far. Will the big corporations succeed in taking over the whole country?

5. The Home Of The Big Lie...
Faux's role is to push lies and talking points early and often as to make them "common knowledge" even if they're debunked. The networks original purpose was to support the GOTB agenda, now its to direct it.

14. Fox is part of the big corporations - the MOUTH-PIECE. And 1984's BIG BROTHER is
made up of Big Corporations.

Should the Repubs. win the 2012 elections, within a short time we'll be living 1984.

7. 1984 and you are correct
or for a real world example... Pravda used to do this... the difference is... Russians knew Pravda lied... Fox viewers do not realize it.

Oh and the irony moment... Pravda means The Truth. Why 1984 partially used PRAVDA techniques, including removing people from photos. George Orwell took Pravda to an extreme... and Fox is far worst than Pravda since it's viewers believe it.

15. Pravda was openly brutal with their lies. Fox took its time and increased the dosage of
lies gradually. Fox learned from Pravda's mistakes. Yes, Fox is more successful than Pravda.

Yes, it's part of brain-washing the American public, but for what purpose?
What does Rupert Murdoch have in mind for us? The old devil is in his 80s.
How much longr can he live?

More and more of America is being controlled by really sick people -- hence
the horrible mess we're in. Will we ever free ourselves of this national
cancer and curse?

17. Yes, exactly: they think there are two versions of the truth

and they choose to believe their version.

I discussed this with a Palinite Fox News believer a couple of years ago who told me the same thing.

She admitted that she watched Fox because it reinforces her beliefs and thought that I watched other news channels because they catered to my lefty views. She couldn't understand that CNN etc aren't actually dedicated liberal channels and that I watch the news for..well, "the news", factual things that happened.

She had the same idea about websites: that all websites are left wing or right wing, so (for example) anything bad about Palin was from a left wing website.
