2. If you mean don't waste money on wars
then that would be a fiscal conservative and would therefor also be progressive. But the rest? no.

3. In my mind being progressive has more to do with...
...truth, science and caring for one's fellow man than any one cause.

10. Anti-environmentalist.
But I find I can actually live with some fundamentalists if they are the kind who stress love & compassion over hellfire for gays, atheists, abortionists, etc.

My favorite example is Jim Wallis of Sojourners Magazine, named for Sojourner Truth. (Google her if you don't lknow about her.)

Edited on Sat Jun-18-11 07:09 PM by Violet_Crumble
I find it difficult to see anyone as being LW if they support foreign occupations and US exceptionalism and unilateralism, and think Might Makes Right trumps international law, and that multinationalism and the UN are things to be opposed...

15. I'd kick myself off if
I were Anti-Union, Anti-GLBT, Anti-abortion rights (how I felt about abortion would be a non-issue), Anti-ADA. Those are the biggies for me.

I'd also not call myself a progressive if I were Anti-secularism.

17. IMHO, it would be a combination of things that would kick one off the progressive list.
Probably the most important to me would be a lack of open-mindedness.

So getting kicked off such a list wouldn't be a biggee as I didn't belong on it in the first place.

22. in my youth (the 60s & 70s)the dems and liberals stood for something
1) Unions and working people
2) jobs
3) social safety nets (SS, Medicare etc.)
4) education.
5) subset of 3 - healthcare for all.

Seems to me as the repubs moved more and more right, many of the dissatisfied Eisenhower Republicans left the repubs in name, but continued to vote for Repubs while calling themselves Dems.
o now we got a third of a party that is right of Ike, a third that isn't sure what Dems stand for and a third about ready to bolt to keep the liberal passions alive.

24. Anti affirmative action.
In the beginning... it might have had a noble purpose and results, but now it's an antiquated/abused system that needs to be eliminated.

People should be hired based on their merits... not their ethnicity.
