The President Doesn’t Have As Many Friends As He Thinks at NN11

<snip>

This morning at Netroots Nation in Minneapolis White House Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer was openly and lustily booed at his Q&A session with bloggers and activists. Even Kalli Joy Gray (Angry Mouse) of the Great Orange Satan got in on it by demanding to know why the President lied about his position on gay marriage during the 2008 campaign.

Open hostility toward administration mouthpieces was not something I expected at this conference. Grumbling in private, sure, but I really didn’t expect this kind of hostility.

Gaps in support for the Democratic ticket were apparent last night when most of the speakers leading up to Russ Feingold’s keynote made mention of “angst” or lack of enthusiasm for the president. Howard Dean treated the angst at some length but concluded by saying that of course he was supporting the president (but that’s not the real fight, according to the doctor). Randi Weingarten of AFT also alluded to a lack of energy.

As I write this I am sitting on the floor, against a wall, at a panel run by Jeremy Bird, the energetic, skinny, fast talking and delusional Field Director that is running the Obama 2012 field operation. Just a few minutes ago someone openly asked him what reasons the campaign will be giving people to vote for them again.

The questioner specifically said that people do not see the president fighting, and asked what the campaign can possibly tell people.
Bird challenged her premise, spouting platitudes like (and I’m paraphrasing here, but certain terms are original) “young people are excited and see the change in their lives“, “we need to listen to what our volunteers are saying”, “we need to talk about jobs and focus on the economy”. Bird even used the phrase “we need to keep honing our message” three times in the answer.

Another question was asked regarding the campaign’s fundraising...

9. Last year, the President personally recorded a message to Netroots Nation. This year...
...the President sent his personal assistant Daniel Pfeiffer to answer questions in person.

In both cases, President Obama knows most of these folks are not going to lift a finger for him to raise money, etc., unless he actually coughs up some good reason for them to. Because he knows he has to earn their support, he at least makes the attempt.

Quiet mouths don't get fed in politics.

11. President has been presiding over the Koch Bros Democratic Party ....
and I didn't hear him complaining about that --

Rather we've seem Obama following those corporate/DLC influences on every

issue from the corporate MIC to the corporate mandates against MEDICARE FOR ALL --

12. So Many Achievements With Work Still To Be Done
I do not think this FDL article represents the views of most liberals. The activist community may be less satisfied than those of us not in those roles. The president still polls high within the party including the progressive wing of the party. Rachel Maddow's list of accomplishments for the Obama administration was impressive. I stop reading FDL sometime ago when I became convinced they would always be critical and bitter about Obama regardless of his performance because he wasn't Hillary.

13. 80% of the public want an end to the wars -- 76%+ want MEDICARE FOR ALL....
Just as many want a return to progressive taxes on rich --

Obama is more in line with Repug policy than with the public and/or the Dem voter --

Polls are being gimmicked as much as our elections --

Hillary? Hillary is part of Koch Bros./DLC leadership!

And presume that Obama who removed himself from DLC affiliation and later revealed

himself as a "New Dem" is saying only the same thing -- he's with the corporates

and everything he has done since Day 1 has shown that to be true --

From eloping into the White House with Koch Bros/DLC Rahm Emmanuel to putting the

very Wall St./Bankers who created the financial coup into his administration!
