Democrats as people, the only viable alternative to disaster capitalism.
After reading a most excellent post and responses regarding constructive criticism of the democratic party status, I try to put my 2 cents in and find the discussion locked. I can see the point of view of this board but I think the discussion was helpful and was not directly against the party. The discussion, I think, was trying to help the democrats recover their traditional backing and power because they have swerved to positions that were actually destroying the party and are losing support.

My 2 cents is that politics, for almost all parties in the US, has be taken away gradually from the people and given to corporate influence. The battle of capital and labor has been effectively won. The only way to reverse it, or to restore some kind of balance, is to get a constitutional amendment, or whatever it takes, to state explicitly that corporations have no rights as people. Then ban them from any political influence and let the people get back to having their say and actually voting in verifiable elections.

I have heard that 80% or more of real people want to reverse the supreme court decision that gave first amendment rights to corporations regarding political donations, and also heard that most people want corporations out of politics and the people's government.

The last few elections have really made this clear, that the parties can argue amongst and between themselves and get into it with gusto, but the votes and legislation end up pushing through corporate interests, not those in the interests of civil society. Corporate media delights in focusing on the fights and foibles of flashy people while rights and freedoms are lost quietly step by step to limit populist power.

I have given sums of money to dem organizations and did what I could to help dem candidates in the past few elections, but with the message to get business influence out of politics. The influence has not been stopped and in fact has gotten much worse.

This is the issue behind all others, and the only viable alternative to completely losing democracy in the USA is to eliminate the fiction of corporate personhood, and thus end this money influence that has compromised so many elected officials and led us to this mess, IMHO.
