I used to think FactCheck was a responsible & reliable org. BUT,
what's with this post?

Democrats make false and misleading claims about the impact of the House GOP budget plan on Medicare and the federal debt in automated phone calls placed in 13 districts.

*The robocalls, paid for by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, claim the GOP plan "actually increases the debt by almost $2 trillion." That's misleading. It's true that the GOP proposes an increase of $1.91 trillion next fiscal year, compared with where it stands now. But that's smaller than the $2.15 trillion increase projected under Obama's budget.

*The calls falsely claim that "Medicare will end" under the GOP plan. As we have written before, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office says the plan would require future beneficiaries now younger than 55 to pay more than they typically would under traditional Medicare. It's accurate to say the GOP plan would alter Medicare profoundly, but it's false to claim that Medicare would cease to exist.

*The robocalls falsely claim that the House GOP budget plan would end "Medicare to pay for subsidies for Big Oil." The plan proposes no specific changes in existing tax breaks for oil companies.

#1.91 trillion looks damn close to $2. trillion to me! And that the Pub plan wouldn't end Medicare I believe is also false!

1. i agree with you on both points. they rounded up which is acceptable.
and just because they still call it 'medicare' does not mean it will be medicare anymore. turning it into a voucher program will end the program as we know it.

Ironic that the man who twisted facts helped establish factcheck.

4. Politifact made similar findings
and got an earful for them too. Just because the Republicans want to still call Ryancare "Medicare" doesn't make it so IMHO. That claim is somewhat subjective but the fact is that Medicare would so fundamentally change that it wouldn't even be accurate to refer to it as such anymore IMHO but I guess that is a more subjective claim. And yeah, $1.91T is, in fact "almost $2T, so what the DCCC says is, in fact, accurate.

5. I'd say a difference of $244 BILLION
is quite significant and not a rounding issue.

6. Not when you're talking in terms of Trillions! Same as if you were
buying something that cost $35.00 in one store and $25.00 in another, $10.00 is a lot of money. Put the claims in the right context!

8. In all fairness, we do have access to a lot more money. The Pubs have
made the deficit the big problsm. It's not! Jobs are! If more spending on things like rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure and horing millions to do it, and extending the unemployment indefinatey until tje jobless rate went to 6% then it's money well spent. Sure in the short run the deficit would increase, but if the jobless rate went down significantl BECAUSE so many were put to work rebuilding, then many more people would have money in their pockets to spend, creating demand, which would require more employees to make things and improving business profits, and finally the financial outlook would be good. Remember, when people work, they also pay taxes and that redices the deficit as well!
