Experiencing Horror changes you
Edited on Sun Jun-12-11 09:01 PM by Ripley
A few days after April 27 when the F-4 tornado ripped apart the city I live in my dishwasher flooded. The guy who fixed it was a vet from Iraq and he told me how my town looked and smelled like a battlefield and how much trauma there was to all of us who saw it because we were not prepared as he was as a soldier.

I'm still dealing with the F-3 that went over my house April 15, today hand-hauling out more huge dead oak branches which have fallen from high winds, but no rain - in a drought here and fire alert statewide.

The climate change our planet is undergoing right now is creating havoc not only around the world where survivors of horrific disasters are displaced and disoriented but right here in the USA!

I'm one of them.

For your well wishes. If I'm remembering right you're fighting nuclear energy? Well, I'm with ya all the way.

4. hugs to you
I know what it's like to live through some devastating moments - tho not the one who have been through.

You can get through all this mess - one step at a time.

7. I was in a large quake in '89
and it was YEARS before I didn't think of it at least once a day. :(

Even though I live in an area that supposedly doesn't get big quakes, I still have an acute awareness of the potential for disaster. :(

10. Best wishes to you
The effects of such an experience can be life-long, but there is support available--and sometimes the most useful survival skill is the ability to reach out for help and support.

Hang in there, and take care of yourself.

Love & Peace,
pinboy3niner

hurting from severe weather events and my op was not intended for sympathy for me.

BUT to try to enlighten DUers about the climate change victims here at home.

13. The eye of Katrina went over my house
I sat in the bathtub with my cat, praying we'd survive, while the walls shook. Horror does change the hell out of you, but nothing prepared me for what I saw when I climbed out of the bathtub, and started living it for weeks on end. That's not a request for understanding, or even sympathy. When I climbed out of that bathtub, and walked out of the partially standing (thankful for partially) door, nothing could have prepared me.

That was before I went to the other place and saw what the flooding had done.

Then, six weeks later, it was like Christmas time. The toilets flushed because the water got turned on.
