Tell Obama "DON'T undermine Social Security funding"
Please read the message below from the Strengthen Social Security Campaign in D.C.

This requires an immediate response! The President would be further undermining Social Security. He cannot have it both ways. He cannot cast himself as a defender of Social Security and at the same time attack the funding stream of the system.

Individuals and organizations please contact the White House ASAP with the message "trying to solve the present economic crisis by temporarily exempting employers from Social Security contributions is a direct attack on Social Security and an attack on American workers and their families."

White House Proposal to Exempt Employers from Paying For Social Security Will Hurt Workers and their Families
(Washington, D.C.) —White House advisors are reportedly considering relieving employers from their obligation to contribute to Social Security. This proposal, if enacted, would eliminate billions of dollars of revenue dedicated to Social Security at a time when some members of Congress argue that Social Security’s benefits should be cut because the program may have insufficient revenue after 2036.

Nancy Altman, Co-Director of Social Security Works issued the following statement on the Administration’s idea:
“That the White House would even consider cutting Social Security’s funding is enormously alarming. It indicates that the White House does not take seriously the dedicated nature of worker and employer contributions to Social Security. Those contributions belong to American workers and their families. Social Security should not be treated as a piggybank or raided by politicians in Washington.

“The supposed reason for the proposal is to further stimulate the economy, but there are a number of more efficient and effective ways to do so. Those other measures would boost the economy more without giving ammunition to those who want to cut or even privatize Social Security.

“Even if the lost income were made up from general revenue, great harm would be done. If the proposal became law, those arguing to cut Social Security’s benefits would then point out that Social Security has a huge shortfall and is contributing to the deficit, and so must be cut.

Social Security provides vital economic security to millions of seniors, women, people with disabilities, children, families of soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, and others. The government should do all it can to spur job growth, but not at the expense of Social Security.”

1. You can tell him but it won't do any good
Tell him to keep extending tax breaks for the rich instead if you don't feel like wasting your breath.

4. Maybe we should tell him to attack SS outright and end the system.
He consistently stands against what the people want and what would be good for them. Maybe it's time to try the reverse psychology trick ;)

5. Who would have ever thought it would be necessary to do this during a Democratic presidency.
It's tragic, really. President Obama has been the biggest disappointment.

Why should we set ourselves up for the "if only you'd tried harder" blame game? Bottom line, Obama and the Dems should have the decency and the brains and the statesmanship to figure this one out without "support" from us. If they need political cover for this, what in the hell are they willing to stand up for without being backed up by millions of people saying, "Pretty please"?

Social Security and Medicare are no-brainer bread-and-butter Dem issues. If the WH needs our "help" on this, I wonder if they've got the brains and guts to cross the street by themselves.
