^snip^

The Book of Mormon is a religious satire musical with a book, lyrics, and music by Trey Parker, Matt Stone, and Robert Lopez.<1> Best known for creating the animated comedy South Park, Parker and Stone co-created the music with Lopez, who co-wrote and co-composed Avenue Q. The show lampoons organized religion and traditional musical theatre, reflecting the creators' lifelong fascination with Mormonism and musicals.

13. It's created by the South Park duo. Mormon's are trying to ignore it.

16. I don't think there's anything suspicious about the timing. I heard at the end of the show,
the missionaries doubt their faith.

22. Incorrect, they do not "doubt their faith"
they reinvent it, incorporating elements that make it more relevant for the people to whom they are ministering.

23. The Mormons actually gave a pretty good response to it
They said that there's nothing wrong with laughing at the stereotypes, but that it can be a problem if people actually take them seriously. Considering the lampooning they get in this musical, that's a pretty temperate respose.

Matt and Trey said that when that before it opened people would tell them "You know there will be massive outrage and protests" and they responded "No, I think they will be cool."

I also read a New York Times article where they said that there were clearly audiences with Mormons in them because there are some Mormon in jokes that a few people would laugh at and the rest of the crowd would be dead silent.

19. NPR had all of the songs from the play on it's website
and I not only listened to them, I downloaded them. Believe me, neither Mitt Romney nor the LDS church are happy about this play.

I can't wait to see it.

24. This is probably a really stupid question, but
do they ever film plays and release them? I can't see this live, but I'd pay to buy a DVD version.

25. Yes....they do.

Not necessarily every show would be available, but they do film and release. You can also often catch individual numbers on youtube (from promos and morning shows and other appearances)
