Lady Gaga performs at Rome gay pride rally of hundreds of thousands

Hundreds of thousands of people marched through central Rome in a gay pride parade today, which was capped by a brief Lady Gaga performance in the ancient Circus Maximus stadium.

Wearing a green wig and a Versace costume, she played the piano and sang a few numbers. But she devoted much of her appearance to denounce intolerance and discrimination against gays and transgender people, reports AP. Among the places she cited was the Middle East, Poland, Russia and Lithuania.

Lady Gaga told the crowd she is often asked "How gay are you, Lady Gaga?"

"My answer is: 'I am a child of diversity.'"

Lady Gaga praised her audience, for its "great courage" which she says inspires her.
