Anthony Weiner says he will take leave of absence
http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_theticket/20110611/ts_yblog_theticket/nancy-pelosi-and-top-democrats-call-on-weiner-to-resign

Just hours after three leading Democrats called on him to resign, Rep. Anthony Weiner announced he will take a leave of absence from Congress and enter a treatment program.

Saturday began with a major blow to Weiner's chances for survival, as House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Democratic National Committee chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Rep. Steve Israel, chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, all issued statements urging Weiner to leave Congress.

3. It's a sad loss, but he's causing more damage by staying. He should go.
He did it to himself, and he should go.

8. It's a good play for a public figure involved in a scandal
You can shift the blame to something other than yourself (addiction, etc.) and also be held incommunicado for a while too.

Naughty Twitterers Anonymous?

Usually alcohol treatment is the first stop for politicians involved in public scandals.

18. I am retired from the Mental Health field, the signs are plain.
Esp. his recent marriage and escalation of behavior, practicing his compulsions at work, etc.
He has, if he chooses, a legal right to seek treatment and keep his job, unless his job behavior broke some laws.
just as any alcoholic or drug addict has the right.

25. I hear in Saudi Arabia he'd face flogging
actual flogging that is, not the metaphorical version he's getting now. What's your point? In France I'd at least get healthcare and they do acknowledge that their citizens have functioning genitals. Even their elected officials. That's more to work with than we have here.

22. Douchebaggery has been around since the beginning of time.
This would be bullshit in any other country. Now the head of the head of the IMF has a serious problem and it's not the FIRST TIME.

Stay Anthony and FIGHT.
56% of his constituents want him to stay. I think - maybe I'm wrong since elections are rigged his people should have the right to vote he should stay or go. I'm in NC and going to send in my 3rd donation in as many days.
